Everything is charming in Andalucia,I kept the most wonderful memories about this region, and it is the first time of all my trips when I had the feeling, there were lots of things to see yet, left for another visit in the future! that's for sure!

Alcazar

by dr.firas

Now this is for sure the second most important thing to do after visiting the Cathedral in Sevilla, Alcazar from Arbic word: Al Kaser, which means the Palace, is the evidence of a wealthy and mighty once existing glourious civilization which created the Andalucia perfection charm!

Andalucian Gardens

by dr.firas

It is funny, in my hometown Aleppo where our farmhouse is, the land where all the villas are parted is called: Andalucian Gardens, since the time we bought the farmhouse and I ask myself, why they called it so!and today after visiting the real fantastic Andalucian Garden, I can understand a reason for this nice try to emitate the wonderful Gardens of Andalucia ;-D

Galicia is one of the most magical and amazing places in Spain; it is well worth a visit. Please check out my sadly under viewed Galicia PageGalicia has one of the most incredible coastlines. Beautiful in the sun spectacular when it's wet and and windy. It also is home to some of the best food it Spain!!!!

Granada

by blint

Granada is a town with so much to offer. It is one of the most cultural places in Europe due to it's major Arabic influences which are still alive and kicking today. The main attraction to Granada has to be the Alhambra which is an incredible Arabic fortress with Catholic palaces tacked on too. It is very well preserved. Get more information on the Alhambra from my must see activities on my pages devoted to Granada. If you go to Granada you also have to visit the Albaicin which is the old Arabic town beside the Alhambra. It consists of lovely little white houses and cobbled streets ( I live there!).You Must also visit Sacromonte the gypsy quarter where people live in caves built into the side of a mountain. It is also a hotbed for Flamenco.Another great thing to do is go to one of the many Arabic tearooms behind Plaza Nueva and try the natural fruit juices and Arabic teas. You can also...

Malaga

by blint

Malaga to many is just an airport, but in reality it is a port city and a province in Andalucia. Behind all those modern buildings there is an old heart that is worth exploring. It also has a lively nighlife and a seaside.Malaga was probably founded by the phoenicians and now the province enjoys/suffers from many Spanish and foriegn tourists!.If you are in Malaga city with some time to kill it's worth checking out the 16th century Cathedral which was once a mosque. I remember the cathedral to be really quite large and very beautiful. I didn't go inside, but if you'd like to it's open 9-7 everyday except Sundays. You can visit the house where Picasso was born (Casa Natal) in Plaza de la Merced 15. It's open from 11-8 but closes for siesta. There is also a Picasso Museum in the 16th century Palacio de Buenavista found on Calle San Austin in the old Jewish Quarter. The beaches are Ok though...

Old Ronda (NOT the Ronda you are thinking of..)

by blint

Ronda la Vieja is 12km from Ronda and is built on Neolithic foundations though became a Roman town of Acinipo during the first century AD. The most impressive thing to see here is the Amphitheatre which boasts absolutely INCREDIBLE acoustics! You can stand on the stage and whisper and anyone sitting in the back row of the old seats can here you with NO trouble! Just make sure you don't talk bad of anyone while you are here; they are liable to hear you! It is an amazing example of Roman ingenuity that you get the opportunity to try out!The site is open from 10-6. It does not look like a usual entrance to a historic sight as there is no ticket building; just a farmer and a small shack to welcome you!P.S. I should clarify that all there is in Ronda la Vieja is Roman ruins! There is no town or anthing. Just the ruins, the farmer and his dogs!

Tip Photo
Mérida

by blint

Mérida used to be the capital of the Roman province of Lusitania and is now jam packed with Roman Ruins. In fact there are more ruins here than anywhere else in Spain. Many are incedibly well preserved too. It was proudly the 10th major Roman city during the empire. You will be spoilt or choice but be sure to see the Roman Bridge, the Alcazaba and The Theatre and Amphitheatre.Situated North East of Plaza España is Mérida's principal archeological sight where you can see the above mentioned Theatre and Ampitheatre as well as a Roman Village and Museum of Roman Art among other things. The Theatre was built in the 15th century and is one of the best preserved. See photo below. During the summer it's open from 9-7:15 although it closes for the siesta. The rest of the year it is open from 9-6:15 also closing for the siesta. This is just a taster of what Merida has to offer; remember there are...

Trujillo

by blint

Trujillo is the home town of the South American conquistador Pizarro. Whose statue you can see in the main Square.Pizarro, in my opinion, is not a man to be celebrated as he was a greedy fool who was part of one of the worst parts of Spanish history. He captured and executed the Inca emperor and stole all his gold. Not to mention being part of the crew who managed to destroyed some of the worlds most important historical artefacts and history (oh, I forgot to mention they destroyed the entire Inca civilization too! How silly of me!). I didn't enjoy my visit to Trujillo (against popular opinion). I saw many people take photos of their family in front of the statue which sent shivers down my spine. I also spotted a Nazi Swastika graffitied on to a wall which put me even more at unease. The whole sensation I got from the town was not good; the vibes were most definitely not friendly. It had...
