mijas

by beannie

During the month of January, Mijas holds their festival of San Anton which is celebrated with a romeria (open air party) at the holy hermitage and reached in carriages and on carts, piled high with flowers and food. There is a thriving arts and crafts movement in Mijas, particularly linen and wicker items and the locally made bread and honey is definitely worth trying.one of the most lovely villages i have come across, so relaxing to walk around, lovely resturants to eat in and the shops are beautiful, a must for anyone to go and see.Still on a culinary note, the traditional local fare includes gazpachuelo (an egg soup) and for those with a sweeter tooth, there are the typical cakes made with almonds, called bunuelos and homazos. One of the most interesting buildings in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto which can be spied, just about everywhere in the village, appropriately enough,...

Jalon

by benidormone

In 1472 a selection of wines was sent to the Valencian court by the Moors living in Jalon. Later the sale of this product would become the base of Marina Alta's economy. Nowadays Jalon is a very lively town with wine cellars, craft shops and restaurants. Every Saturday one of the larfest flea markets of the area is held here. The markets specializes in antique furniture. For more information visit my Jalon Page!!!

Teruel

by DanielF

Small, remote and cold are adjectives often applied to the city of Teruel. They all may be true. But it is also true that the city is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage for the extraordinary value of its mudéjar architecture. As one approaches Teruel, it appears like a mirage of Mauresque towers in the middle of the windswept mountains of the Southern Iberian range. Architecture fans will be at their ease here. And so will be anyone who can find real pleasure in tasting thin slices of mountain cured ham (myself included, claro).A few more Teruel pictures can be seen in my Teruel page.

Valladolid

by SirRichard

Valladolid is located in the Castilla-Leon region of Spain, north west of Madrid. Is a rather small town that can be visited by foot and has a few interesting buildings and a beautiful "Plaza Mayor". It makes a good daytrip from Madrid (about 75 minutes by car, highway) or a pleasant stop if you make a tour around castilian cities around Madrid (along with Segovia, Avila, Leon, Burgos...)

Tip Photo
Avila

by SirRichard

Avila is a small town in the heart of Castilla - Leon region, northwest of Madrid. Its main tourist attractions are the magnificient medieval walls, probably the best preserved in all Spain. Apart from that the town has a nice old part with narrow stone streets and many traditional castilian restaurants. Many places in town remind the presence of the saint Saint Therese of Jesus, a mystic saint who lived here in the 16th century. The many pastries and sweets made by nouns that you will find in town make a good souvenir from this place.

San Sebastian

by SirRichard

San Sebastian is a nice coastal town located in the Basque Country, in the north of Spain. Is a very nice and "french style" town, rather different from Bilbao, the other main city in the Basque country. It has a wonderful maritime promenade, a modern Congress Palace (Kursaal), an old quarter full of bars with pintxos (the northern "tapas") and a beautiful bay that you can see from the "Monte Igueldo".You can get here by train from Madrid, or Paris, and by road (highway) from Madrid. It has an airport too.

Madrilian balconies

by SirRichard

If you visit Madrid, the capital, taake a look up to the balconies when you walk around the centre. The typical Madrid facades are made of red bricks and have many balconies with iron work on it. Some houses of the centre are now being restored to emphasize that image of Madrid...
