Plaza de España

by traveldave

Plaza de España is a nice place to relax after sightseeing in downtown Madrid. The plaza features a pair of huge ornamental fountains, green grass, and shady trees. However, its most noteworthy attraction is a tribute to one of Spain's most famous writers, Miguel de Cervantes. A large bronze statue of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza is the centerpiece of the plaza. The novel, Don Quixote de la Mancha, famous for its idealistic hero who fights windmills, was published in 1605. It was the world's first bestseller, and remains one of the world's great works of literature. The large building in the background is the 383-foot (117-meter) Edificio de España, built in 1948.

Plaza de la Villa

by traveldave

Plaza de la Villa is a fifteenth-century square noted for its Baroque architecture, including the Casa de la Villa, or Town Hall, pictured here. The Casa de la Villa was designed in the 1640s by Juan Gómez de la Mora, the architect of Plaza Mayor. A balcony was added later by Juan de Villanueva, the architect of the Prado, so that the royal family could watch the Corpus Christi processions passing by.

Plasencia

by euskaldun

You will not be in Spain during the winter months. March and November may be chilly, even bellow 0 C in places of high elevation. You don't define boiling, but Inland Andalucia and Extremadura are usually the hottest places during the Summer, so the places you are thinking of would nit fit in your requirements. Also, Badajoz is way bigger and Cabezabellosa way smaller than what you expect. A somewhat cooler alternative in northern Extremadura (average temp. in Summer 34 C) would be Plasencia, a large (40 000 inhabitants) historic town between Caceres and Salamanca with good connexions and services and less touristy than Trujillo.

Summer in Spain

by euskaldun

Valenciano is hardly spoken in the city of Valencia, unlike in most of the small towns in the vicinity. However, it does get hot and sticky during the summer. I would personally avoid Andalucia, especially Seville and Cordoba, during the summer, as it is usually there where the highest temperatures are recorded, often above 40 C. Only somewhere by the coast with a nice beach would be a nice option. However, the local variety of Spanish spoken in Andalusia (especially in Cadiz) may be hard to understand for foreigners. In some extreme cases even for native Spanish speakers.Of your options, Santander would be the most sensible in my opinion. Temperatures along the North coast are the most pleasant in Spain during the summer, although you might get some rain. In addition, while most Spanish large cities get rather quiet in August, Santander is at its most lively during the whole summer,...

Aguadulce

by solopes

Situated in the torrid area of Almeria, Aguadulce is one of the most developed beaches in Spain. The sand is not its best quality, but the water is warm, the surf calm, and the life in town as animated as usual in Spain.

Granada.

by cachaseiro

Granada was the last bastion of the moors when they inhabited Spain more than 500 years ago. They build the Alhambra which is the main attraction of Granada these days.Apart from that Granada has many other attractions and is a town with a very nice vibe and a really nice mountain town to hang out in for a few days.

Jerez de la Fronteira.

by cachaseiro

Jerez de la Fronteira is located in Andalucia and it´s the hometown of sherry aswell as the famous spanish riding school.I think it´s well worth stopping there as it´s a very pleasant town and the sherry tastings are a must if you are in that part of the world if you ask me.

Tip Photo
Madrid

by cachaseiro

Madrid is the capitol of Spain and a huge city in the center of the countryIt's not as young and anarchistic as barcelona, but it's a historical place with fantastic museums and a suprisingly good nightlife.I try to go there for a weekend at least once a year as it's a city that grows on you and gets better and better for each time you visit.

Tip Photo
Tenerife.

by cachaseiro

Tenerife is one of the main holiday spots in Spain and you can go here for 2 weeks without speaking any spanish or meeting any native, but it's also possible to go there and explore.Tenerife has the highest mountain of spain, Pico del Teide for instance and it´s possible to hike to the top if you are fit.The nature in Tenerife is awsome once you get away from the main tourist drag.

Tip Photo
Sevilla.

by cachaseiro

Sevilla is one of the most scenic and interesting towns in Spain. This is the town where many of the great sea voyages to the new world was planned and there are many remains from that period. It´s also a religious center and Sevilla has many churches aswell. The old part of Sevilla is really lovely, espcially the former jewish quarter.Just be aware that Sevilla is the hottest town in europe during the summer months, so you should try to visit at other times of the year in my opinion.
