Paradise of sun seekers, this archipelago is easy to reach and allows a never boring stay, even if you don't appreciate the sea. The biggest of the Balearic Islands is Majorca, and it is the main destination. But Ibiza has its charm, with a long gay free reputation, I don't know if deserved or not. For me Majorca is OK, and enjoyed my two holidays there.
hi, sounds like a fun trip!i am a woman and have traveled solo since i was 26. beyond the normal dangers, you don't have to worry. spain is pretty safe, in my experience. 8 days seems like a long time in barcelona. depending on what you want out of your trip, you can decide where you want to spend most of your time. in madrid, you get the full authentic, unfiltered spanish culture. i see barcelona as more of an international city. they both have great stuff to see (barcelona has gaudi and madrid has all the best museums). madrid seems like more of a working city...up at 6am, work til 2, siesta, work again til 8. play all night. :) this is what i would do:fly into madrid, stay 6 days. train to barcelona, spend 4 days. train to figueres, (def. see some dali stuff) stay 3 days. train back to barcelona for the last day.
When a foreigner thinks about Spain it's Andaluzia his common reference. Andaluzia is the salero of "guapas sevillanas", the violence of bloody bullfights, the romantic history of Islamic times, and beaches professionally prepared and sold. Landscape is not at the top, but nature helps here and there to embellish a coast crowded with blond people seeking for sun. Benidorm is the forest of concrete that gathers more Portuguese, but we need not to go that far to find some natural sights and attractive spots, in the diverse coast of Andaluzia.

Its eight kilometres of coast-line makes it an important tourist resort with nice beaches like Carvajal, Torreblanca del Sol, Los Boliches, La Gaviotes, Santa Amalia and El Castillo.The beautiful promenade spans practically the entire coast-line of Fuengirola, from the area of Sohail Castle to Santa Fe de los Boliches. One of the more attractive features of Fuengirola is its port. This is one of the most important suppliers of fresh fish to restaurants in the western area of the Costa del Sol.Sohail Castle is Fuengirola's most important monument and was built in the 10th century.Update: Saturday February 20, 2010Went to Fuengirola for the Saturday Flea Market. Sunday February 14, 2010When Carmen asked what I wanted to do for the day, I said I would like to go to a Flea Market and I would like to visit CASARES. This charming, typical white village is only nine miles from the coast, but you would never know it, as it has avoided the throngs of tourists. probably because it is difficult to get to (no local transportation) and parking is very restricted because of the narrow, winding streets. The village is accessible from the coast road N340/A7.The scenery is certainly picturesque and there is wonderful views of the village with its medieval fortress perched on top of the hill.Neighbouring villages include, Manilva (where the Sunday Flea Market was held) and Gaucin. Also Estepona is not far away.
Modern city with a lot of history. See the Alcazaba, the fortified palace built by the moors and the cathedral. Nearby you have some wonderful Natural Parks such as Cabo de Gata and inland the Sierra Nevada mountains.
