Don't go to Gibraltar; and when you do, don't be dissapointed when it is just as dirty as the surrounding area. ( I expected a part of Britain in Spain but .....:-(( ) The sights are in a bad shape or not there and the monkeys, well, ..... it's terrible Leave a Comment

FRS ferry company offers a tour that is the same price as the ferry ride to Tangiers. What they don't tell you is that your tour guide will take you to varioius places within Cazbah where they do very, very high pressure sales. We were the only people on the tour and I didn't think we were going to be about to leave a carpet "factory" that they took us to. Once again proves that there is no free lunch! Leave a Comment

In several of the markets, leather markets especially, never go with the first price offered on leather goods.
It is almost expected that you haggle. This does not mean try to gouge the sellers, just try to get a good bargain for yourself.
You can always go to one of the malls, but where is the fun in that? Fixed prices and limited selection. Leave a Comment

Many hotels will tell you about a Flamenco show they offer, or can sell you tickets to. I've never been to one, and someday might go just to see why they are supposed to be so bad... I do know they are expensive and that anyone who knows anything about flamenco says they are bad.. These are the made for tourists type of shows that cost 20 or 30 Euros a head if not more... don't go unless you really want to.
Realize that this is not the real deal. Real flamenco happens during the Biennal.. coming this fall... and in many neighborhoods that you might not really want to be in. If you're in Sevilla, go across the river to Triana, and you may have a shot at something.
On the night of any big football match, go to some local dive bar, preferably on the outskirts of town in a residential area. Watch the locals chant, and clap, and break into Sevillanas during the games.. its pretty cool. I've only seen this in Sevilla... so try it there. Leave a Comment

On arrival in Madrid, first thing, some money, first stop,Cambio money exchange That is fine but you should check for counterfiet notes. I was given some and nearly arrested for dealing in false currency. The only thing that saved me is i had just flown in from Heathrow and maybe being Australian helped.Almost every shop will check your hand/over currency until you get to smaller towns, where you can quit it.t
Learn SOME Spanish and be friendly,it helps

Please note that this tip is written from a male perspective, you will understand that I lack the knowledge of what goes on in the other side... Toilets in Spain are a trap for the unwary. In particular, lighting is an issue. Usually, you haev to grope around on the OUTSIDE of the toilet to find the hidden lightswitch, although it can also be located inside cunningly disguised as a loose bit of derelict wiring. Having sucessfully located the lightswitch, your troubles are not yet over, as many lights are on a timer that can vary between 10 seconds and infinity. And you can guarantee that those on short timers are located out of arms reach from the "shooting position". It gets worse: some toilets are on motion sensor lights. So, having groped around for half an hour to find there is no lightswitch, you enter the toilet and start performing, only for the lights to go off because you are standing too still. Hence the sight of men lined up at urinals all waving their legs to ensure the lights remain on. No wonder there is spillage. Finally, you may be confronted in older bars with a squat plate. This is fine for "number ones" but can make "number twos" dicey after a few beers when the balance is gone.
Forewarned is fore-armed!
Do it in the street seems to be the local solution! Even the ladies during fiesta. Leave a Comment

Spain commercial establishments close around 13:30-14:00 and open around 17:00-17:30. It's such a pain in the ass!!! Please, watch out for the opening times for restaurants, shops, visitor attractions, etc. There're some exceptions, like big department stores and others, so, find out about them. Leave a Comment

Spain is not always 365 days sunshine everywhere. Not only small white-houses villages. Not every Spanish woman is flamenco dancer like Bizetīs "Carmen". Not every Spanish boy dreams of being torero (bullfighter)... ... disapointed???? DONīT ! There are still many others lovely things to be discovered. Just have a try! Leave a Comment
