By train from Barcelona to Montserrat

by hopang

Montserrat Mountain is located approximately 50 kilometres north-west of Barcelona in Catalonia Spain. It can be accessible by FGC trains from Placa d'Espanya terminal in Central Barcelona towards Manresa. It takes approximately 50 minutes to travel by trains from Central Barcelona. You may stop at Montserrat Aeri station and take a cable car which stops at the terrace just below the Monastery of Montserrat.Package tour by trains to Montserrat Mountains is available at a cost of just 31.00 euros per adult. It includes to and fro train ticket, to and fro cable car rides, unlimited rides by internal transport at the resort and three course lunch in a restaurant at the resort including a bottle of beer and soft drink. Package tour can be bought from any tourist information offices in the city of Barcelona.

By Cable Cars

by hopang

You may board the cable car system of Barcelona from Montjuic, Port Vell or Barcelonetta. It costs just 7.50 euros per trip per adult. However if you are afraid of height, this cable car system is not for you. It seems quite frightening to ride the cable car, definitely not for the faint-hearted. Nevertheless the view from the cable car high above the sky over the city and the harbour is breath-taking and spectacular! It is regarded as a tourist attraction.

From and To the Malaga Airport - Malaga Centro

by Birgie

I posted this question but found out the answers when I got to Spain. From the Airport to Malaga Centro a taxi is now about 19 euros (including their "supplemento" for your baggage). The train from the airport is only 1.50 euros for an adult but it's a big pain in the butt if you have heavy luggage or you are not as strong as an ox. I am a distance runner in good physical shape and it was a challenge for me to get up and down 2 steep flights of concrete stairs to the train platform strapped with a suitcase, carry on and a purse and a helping a child with her own luggage. Incredibly, there are no ramps for disabled or elderly people and it's a long complicated route from the terminal to the train platform! Not to mention dragging the weighty bulk on and off the train, which can get really packed at peak times. There is a city bus (better option because it picks you up right outside the...

Cheapest Spanish Rail Ticket: NO EURORAIL PASS

by techants

Cheapest way to Purchase Spanish Rail ticket for USA & Australia resident. I used to live in USA and traveled Europe from there in 2000. Currently, I live in Australia and went to Europe last year. On both occasions, I purchased the Euro Rail pass. Like million others, having the pass was sort of “a must” before heading to Europe. I am going to Europe next month again and spent hours for the last few days on various aspects of touring Europe. My findings: I was pathetically foolish to fall into “Euro Rail pass” trap. Euro Rail pass (for resident living in the USA & Australia) is simply a spam. This crap doesn’t cover anything. Having pass doesn’t ensure anything. For all major trains in Europe, you need to pay supplement and reservation fees even if you hold Euro Rail Global pass. Not to mention, there are other fees such postage, night train supplement, etc. The whole world is giving...

Overnoght Train from Barcelona to Granada

by Geoffleong

. I had previously attempted to book online. The RENFE site does have an English section and we quite easily found the train that we wanted to take. However, when we tried to buy the tickets, every thing was in Spanish. I searched around and eventually found someone who was kind enough to translate the key fields in English. In the end, when it came time to confirm, I did not feel comfortable as it required giving out passport information and decided to buy the tickets at the train station. Not the best decision as we had difficulty in getting the tickets as we had left this too late Thanks to a very helpful clerk at the SANTS station we were able to get our tickets, not exactly what we had wanted, but we did get to Granada. As it was a 10 hour train ride, we had decided to take the overnight train and save one night hotel fees. On the train, we had a choice of beds or on the regular...

Car Ferry, the Leisurely way to Spain

by Wowmoment

Taking the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao is a very relaxing experience and gets you from the UK to Spain refreshed and ready for driving in Spain. The journey took us from around nine in the eve on Saturday arriving in Bilbao at around seven in the morning the following Monday. Our crossing was smooth, though I'm sure this is not always so! We had the delights of whale and dolphin watching on the way with many sightings.Cabins were clean and comfortable and reasonably sized. A good choice of restaurants offered very good food at fair prices. Tip - buy the food vouchers offered at time of purchase for a discount.

Rail Travel in Spain

by mollymoo0oo0

.................................General:The national rail company in Spain is RENFE (Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles), and their website provides information in all main Spain dialects as well as English.Travelling from the UK:It is worth noting that, in addition to the main Spanish site, there is an excellent UK-based site for those wishing to book their Spanish rail travel in advance of their journey to Spain:www.spanish-rail.co.uk(note this also contains a useful section on the front page for visitors to the F.I.B. festival in Benicassím: http://www.spanish-rail.co.uk/benicassim/index.html)(+44) (0)207-725 7063 for telephone bookings from the UKService:Spanish trains are very comfortable, usually air-conditioned, sometimes with films or music to entertain, and often with food wagons available. Prices are reasonable, in view of the good service. *Tip* It is worth allowing an...

Auto-Res Coach travel in North and Central Spain

by mollymoo0oo0

Very reasonable prices, very comfortable buses indeed. Journeys usually include a film and motorway stop-offs for food/toilet breaks (no toilet on-board).Booking online (with a choice of languages) makes the journey easy, though it appears to cause difficulties when using a non-Spanish registered credit card. There are plenty of taquillas - ticket offices - at many bus and train stations though, so should be no problems.Note that online you can only book up to 1-3 months in advance.

Socibus - Coaches in Southern Spain

by mollymoo0oo0

Reasonable prices, comfortable buses with toilet on-board. Film included but you need headphones (can buy these from the driver at the start, but you have to ask). On the journey I travelled my connection had terrible sound problems so I gave up trying to watch the film... which makes a 6.5 hour trip (Madrid-Sevilla) feel quite a bit longer! Also the motorway stop-off was only 15 minutes, which was simply not enough to stretch legs for such a long time spent sat still. Having made the return journey within 2 days, I am still feeling the effects a couple of days later!Otherwise, a pleasant journey and a cheaper option to the train - so I recommend it only on a budget basis.

Pets on the Move

by blint

Dogs can be taken on the local train line 'Cercanias' without paying an extra charge. They do not have to go in a carrier either, they do however have to wear a muzzle and be on the lead. There is no weight limit. To take a dog on medium distance trains they must be put in a pet carrier. Cats too of course.Dogs over 6kg are not allowed to travel the AVE or TALGO (fast trains). If you have a dog under 6kg it must travel in a pet carrier. Cats can be taken in a carrier too.If you have a dog over 6kg it is a real hassle to travel with, especially if you want to go to Madrid or Barcelona. You cannot take dogs on any form of bus either. When you travel with a dog in the car officially you must have a net separating you from them. Them in the back and you in the front. Or they must travel in the car in a carrier. If you don not comply with these regulations be prepared to get a fine if the...
