Coaches are often best

by timtregenza

Coaches are often the best and cheapest way around Spain, as in many places, particularly in the north, trains are not that convenient. One company with a national network is ALSA.They have a good website and you can buy online at http://www.alsa.es

RENFE is improving

by timtregenza

RENFE, the national rail network is investing in its infrastructure and rolling stock. There are basically three types of train: - AVE - high speed train - Intercity (e.g. Talgo) - Local (Cercanias)Basically, you have to have a reservation for AVE and intercity trains, so it is well to book ahead. They have a very good website at http://www.renfe.es

Airport To Hotel

by ere_2k7

I Found out that there are 2 ways to get to your hotel there is:Coach/Bus (they are already waiting at the airport)Taxi (some wait outside the airport)or car hire (can be pre-booked)the website included is someideas on tranfers:http://www.diy-hols.com/palma_airport_transfers/index.htm

Malaga Airport - Car Hire

by travelswithsteve

Now that Malaga's Terminal 2 is online and operating (efficiently !) the car hire companies have yet to catch up.If you arrive at the new terminal and have not reserved a car - You have to leave the terminal and walk into the car park opposite go to down to level -1 and back in thru security to get to the car rental desks ( a bloody nightmare for families with children / luggage etc. Best to leave your mob at the terminal and pick them up on the way out (you have to drive past that way to leave the airport). The rental desks you see when coming out are for advance rentals ONLY.

Train to Segovia

by Jolaz

If you are looking for a relaxing day trip, try taking the train to Segovia. The journey takes around 2 hours and you shall be able to see the green side of Spain. The journey is indeed almost double the time that of the bus because the trains go around the fields and hence will be having quite a pictureque journey.

Tourist train in Toledo

by Jolaz

If you are feeling fatique already after walking for a few days in Spain, I would suggest you to take the tourist train to go around Toledo if you are doing a day trip there. The train depart just outside the tourist information centre on the Plaza de Zocodover, and takes about 50 mins to go around this UNESCO city. The train could let you think of where you should spend your energy on walking and not to miss out any beautiful sites of the city. The train is white little train like those we have taken in the zoo.

Traffic Fines

by elPierro

Keep in mind Spain has very strict penalties for traffic violations, the highways really invite you for speeding but the police is very present and very strict.Just an example of the fines you can expect.Speeding up to 10% of the maximum speed 100 euro.Speeding up to 20% of the maximum speed 120 euro.Speeding up to 30% of the maximum speed 150 euro.Speeding up to 40% of the maximum speed 180 euro.Speeding up to 50% of the maximum speed 300 euro.No safety belt: 100 euro.Overtaking where not allowed: 80 euro.Driving under influence of alcohol, driving through a red light or using your cell phone (handsfree is permitted) are considered heavy violations with the risk of losing your drivers license for 3 to 6 months and fines of 300 to 600 euro. Driving under influence is the heaviest violation and can also lead to fines up to 1500 euro and a permanent denial of your drivers license. Also keep...

Driving in Spain

by elPierro

Driving in Spain is surprisingly pleasant. Roads are of good condition, roadsigns are well placed, and the roads are usually not very crowded. Long distances on highways are easy to drive. Maximum speed on highways are 120km/h and there are intensive speed controls throughout the country. Beware of this as fines are very high here.
