Rastro Market, Madrid by SirRichard Spain is not a particularily dangerous country. You just have to be careful in some big cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla...) at certain areas and specially at night, but in general our streets are pretty safe if you take the obvious precautions any traveler abroad would observe in any other part of the world. Anyway... - Be careful at crowds like markets, metro, public buses... - Avoid lonely streets at nights - When in doubt, take a taxi, there are many in the big cities. Leave a Comment

sand by SirRichard We have wonderful beaches all around Spain and in the islands, but they are not the same. So if you are looking for: - White sand long beaches with hot weather: go to South West (Costa de la Luz) or Canary islands. - White sand beaches with green landscape and mild weather: go to the north coast: Euskadi, Santander, Cantabria or Galicia. - Pebbles beaches with mild waters and hot weather: go to the east (Costa del Sol, Valencia...) - Rocky creeks with transparent waters and hot weather: go to Baleares islands, and some parts of Catalonia (north east). A "bota" for wine by SirRichard These recipients to carry wine are one of the most useful things I have seen. Instead of carrying the wine in fragile glass bottles, you can carry it to picnics... in these leather bags with a cap. BUT if you buy one, you have to heat it a little and blow to inflate it before filling it with wine! Don't try to open it with a knife, you can ruin it down... Leave a Comment

Las Ramblas by hopang Beware of pickpockets especially in overcrowded places like Las Ramblas, major shopping complexes or even at tourist information offices. Do not carry your haversacks or bags behind your back especially when you queue up to purchase tickets or waiting for your turn. The best way is to carry your bags in front of you so that you are aware of what is happening! Barcelona is a crowded city and is notorious for petty thefts! Many unnoticed foreign tourists have lost their personal belongings this way in the past. Leave a Comment

All EU nationals have the right to find employment in Spain without a work permit. The best areas to find a job are tourism, property, insurance and finances. Even if you do not have previous experience Once you get there: You do no need any work permit, just your passport or identity card, but it is useful to apply for the residency card or number as you will need it for many things, as buying a car or a house. And for banks makes things easier. Keep an eye on the job section in newspapers like ABC, El Pais ... And if you come to the south of Spain (Costa del Sol in particular) check the weekly newspaper Sur in english www.surinenglish.com Leave a Comment

Lori & Hansi in Mijas by LoriPori Most visitors to Spain do not experience problems. Violent crime is rare. Although assaults against foreigners are infrequent, reports of such attacks in connection with petty crime are a concern. Petty crime occurs, particualarly during holidays and festivals. Pickpockets and purse snatchers working in pairs or groups are active mainly in airports, train and bus stations and near tourist attractions. Avoid unlit areas, especially at night. Ensure that personal belongings, passports and other travel documents are secure. Keep a copy of your passport identification page, driver's licence, airline tickets and credit cards Leave a Comment

Before leaving your country: Make sure you have a valid passport and get the medical certificate E111 It would be good to ask your bank for bank certificates Once you get there: Get your Residence Card (tarjeta de residencia or NIE) from the Foreigners' Department if intending to stay for longer than 3 months. If you plan to work here as Autonomo or Self employee you will also need to get a tax/fiscal number from the Revenue For that you will need a valid passport and four passport photos Leave a Comment

by Carmela71 Spanish people we have are famous for the typical sentence of Maņana maņana ..... (tomorrow, tomorrow) Well as all bureaucracy, government and other administrative agencies there are slow... like in all the countries I guess Correos (Post Office) can be your nightmare sometimes since it has been recently privatised. Telefonica (Main Telephone company) This is my biggest nightmare lol, but I have friends in UK with the same problems with their phone companies (Orange, BT) so I guess is general. But in Marbella where I live that many foreigners have business, I founded that Spanish people lately are more reliable and punctual than the foreigners.... I have heard many more times the .... Maņana maņana .. in English (tomorrow, tomorrow) than in Spanish ... Leave a Comment

...And DON'T park on PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS :0) by Beach_dog No cause for concern, Spain has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe, but as with everywhere it has increased over the last few years. Particularly vulnerable are tourists to pick-pockets, certainly so in cities, such as Madrid, Sevilla, Granada and Valencia. So if if are walking through crowds be aware of your possessions. Another crime tourists are vulnerable too is drive by bag snatching, this is particularly the case in the seaside resorts. Keep your bag away from the kerbside side of the pavements and keep a tight grip on them. It so easy for the passing moped, motorcycle or car to make a grab for it as they pass often leaving you still attatched to them, causing injury. This said it's not very common, just be aware. If you are staying in an apartment or hotel room, make sure you lock all doors on exit from the room. If you have a terrace that can be accessed from below or a neighbouring terrace, remember to also lock the terrace door. If an incident does occur report it to the local police, if you dont your insurance probably wont pay out on any lost belongings. As I said above, crime is low in Spain but it does happen as everywhere, a few simple precautions could save your vacation being spoilt. Leave a Comment
