Don't expect peace and quiet

by timtregenza

It is possible to find tranquility in Spain, but you will have to search hard for it.Spain is the noisiest country I know, from the coffee grinders in the bars to the motos in the streets, noise is a constant presence.A friend of mine says that the Spanish are afraid of silence. This is not far from the truth!

Money! No Euros or Dollars!

by dr.firas

Be very careful from this real danger possibelity in Switzerland! They don't deal with Euro's and $so you have to change it to Swiss Franks immediatly, the only thing that could save you from troubles if its a weekend when you reach and all the exchange points are closed, is your visa card!with it you will feel good and always move with no troubles!so take note!

transportation and patience

by SvetlanaL

f you need to rent a vehicle, I recommend a moped, as parking is impossible to find and the streets sometimes unnavigateable by large bulky cars. In cities this may be an advantage as most places are within walking distance or a short taxi ride away. Also, the mood in spain is fairly laidback, so beware that most shop or restaurants may be closed for a few hours during the day for a siesta, sometime around 2 pm. As much as this sounds like a stereotype, it seems like the restaurant staff are human and get hungry when you do. This is very different from the attitude of many other cultures, so try to be pateint with this. Also, in spain, yelling may or may not get you anywhere, most often the latter. this includes cab drivers.

public bathrooms and public safety

by SvetlanaL

Some more things to keep in mind: when out and about, be advised that many places offer only pay toilets and charge for toilet paper of which they give out only a few squares. And the smell of the facilities may be discouraging. In cities there are many homeless people and drunkards wandering at odd hours of the night and the streets are very narrow and fairly frightening at night.

Take Caution of the Airports

by SvetlanaL

Be aware that airport security was not as strict as it could have been when I went there several years ago. There was no real emergency when I was there, but when my mother and I were leaving Barcelona and going to London, we had brought some souvenirs. These were table lighters in the shape of granades that had the Spain's emblem on them. These wear heavy and carefully made and even had a pin as a safety that one had to remove to spark the lighter. These lighters did not show up in any security scans in Barcelona, but when we were leaving London we had them confiscated.

Clubs

by blint

You will see these places lit up with neon lights all along the motorways everywhere in Spain. While sometimes it is obvious what they are sometimes it's not so be very careful as the are really WHORE HOUSES.Sometimes they pretend to be hotels other Brits of North Americans may think that Club means nightclub like a disco, but not here in Spain! Club means whore house and Disco means nightclub.Try to avoid sleeping in road side hotels just incase but you can usually tell what they are by the neon lights! Some even have neon lights in the shape of naked woman or hearts, others have really stupid names!

Thieves and Pickpockets

by dr.firas

I'm not trying to give a neggative image of Sevilla, oh no, please don't get me wrong, but many travellers warn you to be careful with the Thieves and Pickpockets, but that includes the big capitals like Paris, London, Madrid too, but in Sevilla there are also gossips about the Gipsy thieves, fortunately I haven't been stolen, but I have to warn my friends the travellers anyway ;-D

Weather

by dr.firas

Ok the climate as I said before is with mild winters, pleaseant temperatures in spring and autumn, and long, hot summers, but I shall admit, when it rains in Sevilla it rains, I mean, dogs and cats, and some times elephents and cows, LOL

Beaches: sandy, rocky, pebbles?

by SirRichard

We have wonderful beaches all around Spain and in the islands, but they are not the same. So if you are looking for:- White sand long beaches with hot weather: go to South West (Costa de la Luz) or Canary islands.- White sand beaches with green landscape and mild weather: go to the north coast: Euskadi, Santander, Cantabria or Galicia.- Pebbles beaches with mild waters and hot weather: go to the east (Costa del Sol, Valencia...)- Rocky creeks with transparent waters and hot weather: go to Baleares islands, and some parts of Catalonia (north east).

Pickpockets

by SirRichard

Spain is not a particularily dangerous country. You just have to be careful in some big cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla...) at certain areas and specially at night, but in general our streets are pretty safe if you take the obvious precautions any traveler abroad would observe in any other part of the world.Anyway...- Be careful at crowds like markets, metro, public buses...- Avoid lonely streets at nights- When in doubt, take a taxi, there are many in the big cities.
