Toilett-Paper missing!!!

by worldtour4

We all went through this. On sightseeing, need a toilett real badly, close the door, sit down, and ....... no paper.Bad luck, or just not prepared.Make sure you always got some sort of paper towel or napkin on you, because nearly 50% or more of Spains bars or cafés do not fill it up, so you are in for a surprise while thinking you are in for a relief. Espacially you traveling ladies out there, take some with ya!!

by chris_i79

When I was travelling on the east coast I planned to take the train from Alicante to Granada, After waiting hours in line at a station I was told the train line did not go to Granada directly (because of the mountains) and I was forced to back track and take a long train ride (complete with a stop over and sleep in a station an hour south of Madrid).Check the routing!

No key, no air conditioning

by AnneAlex

Perhaps it is this way all over Europe, but since our first experience was in Spain, I'm placing it here. For the first 10 minutes upon entering our room we thought we were given a room without power. None of the lights would turn on, the air conditioning wasn't on, and we were just about to give up until we noticed an interesting slot next to one of the light switches by the door. I stuck our key in and suddenly there was light!A wonderful and economical way to conserve energy and power but please make sure you get two keys for your room- one to take and one to leave in your power slot so that the air conditioning will stay on while you're gone! And beware... your housekeeper may remove your air conditioning key while you're gone! We found this to be the case in several Spain hotels we stayed in.

Car thieves!

by diosh

Beware when travelling about by car in Seville! Car thieves abound.Always keep windows closed at traffic lights. Two friends have had their bags snatched whilst waiting at traffic lights. The thieves reach into the car and grab whatever they can reach! One friend leapt out of the car and gave chase-rather drastic action, but thief dropped her bag-yes-HER bag!Don't attempt this! She was lucky.that the bag was dropped immediately.Could have had a nasty result.

Wild Cats

by larababy

At the back of the beach there were a number (quite a number in fact) of feral cats and their kittens. Very cute to look at - but even by looking at them you could see they were very diseased. What made it worse was that all the little old ladies on the trip kept buying packets of Munchies from the local stores and trying to hand feed these poor little things.

Watch Your Step

by larababy

As this hotel was in a reasonably built-up area (prob about 250m from beach) there was dog mess all over the pavements because there was nowhere to walk pets. I think every household had a dog. I have a dog but I don't think Spaniards think to clear up after their pets.Very grim!

THIEVES EVEN IN THE HOTEL LOBBY

by TRAVELCHICK29

I WAS SITTING IN THE LOBBY WHEN A MAN CAME IN AND STARTED TALKING TO A WOMAN WHO WAS SITTING ACROSS THE ROOM. THIS MAN DID NOT SPEAK ANY ENGLISH BUT APPEARED LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO ASK THE WOMAN ABOUT SOMETHING. A FEW MINUTES LATER AFTER THE MAN HAD LEFT, I HEARD HER SAY THAT HER LAPTOP WAS MISSING AND THAT ANOTHER MAN HAD ALSO DISTRACTED HER HUSBAND WHO WAS WITH HER. I FELT BAD BECAUSE I WAS TOO BUSY READING MY BOOK THAT I DIDN'T NOTICE WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I GUESS I TOO WAS DISTRACTED AND HAD LET MY GUARD DOWN

Trying to find a job in Spain? Non EU residents!

by Carmela71

The non EU residents must have their employment approved by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and obtain a visa before entering the country. To get more information the best is to go to the Embassy in your country.

by Carmela71

Before leaving your country: Make sure you have a valid passport and get the medical certificate E111It would be good to ask your bank for bank certificates Once you get there: Get your Residence Card (tarjeta de residencia or NIE) from the Foreigners' Department if intending to stay for longer than 3 months. If you plan to work here as Autonomo or Self employee you will also need to get a tax/fiscal number from the RevenueFor that you will need a valid passport and four passport photos

Trying to find a job in Spain? EU residents!

by Carmela71

All EU nationals have the right to find employment in Spain without a work permit. The best areas to find a job are tourism, property, insurance and finances. Even if you do not have previous experienceOnce you get there: You do no need any work permit, just your passport or identity card, but it is useful to apply for the residency card or number as you will need it for many things, as buying a car or a house. And for banks makes things easier.Keep an eye on the job section in newspapers like ABC, El Pais ... And if you come to the south of Spain (Costa del Sol in particular) check the weekly newspaper Sur in english www.surinenglish.com
