Kopparhatten is a café and restaurant in the same building as Dalarnas Museum. As we were visiting the museum we thought it was good to have lunch here before exploring the museum.

On weekdays and Saturdays there is a lunch buffet, but not on Sundays. As we visited on a Sunday I ordered soup of the day, which was a chicken soup. With the soup (only) I could take salad and bread from a table by the wall. The soup of the day was 69 kr (December 2009). Other things on the menu were goulash soup, warm sandwiches, nacho plate and quiche. The food was okay but nothing special.

It is nicer to sit in the room upstairs where there are high windows and a view out over the river. The ceiling is high and the walls are of red brick. On the walls there were photos hanging, they were taken by students from one of the high schools in Falun.

    Café Princess

I’m probably not the right person to write about this café as I didn’t eat or drink anything here.

When we entered we could see a lot of delicious cakes and biscuits behind the counters downstairs. They looked fresh and inviting, but they were for take away and as we were going to sit down we walked up the stairs. Upstairs it didn’t look as inviting behind the counter and it smelled too much of curry. I asked for a hot chocolate with whipped cream, but they didn’t have it, only chocolate powder. I decided not to have anything. The two small biscuits you can see on the photo and two coffees were 64 kr (December 2009). The decoration of the café feels very plastic.

    Café Princess is open:
    Monday – Friday 10 – 20
    Saturdays 10 – 17
    Sundays 11 - 17

    Banken: The best in town?

Located in an old bank, it is a fun interior for a start, where you can sit next to the door to the old vaults. The first floor has a relaxed brasserie where locals go for good lunch deals (ordered at the counter as often with Swedish lunch deals) during the day but where the evenings are classical brasserie. Downstairs is the more upmarket restaurant A very nice place which also has live gigs now and again and I could probably have put this under nightlife too were it not for my nice lunch plate with a perfect steak and huge home made potato chunks.

    Favorite Dish: That steak...

    Hammars Konditori: Sweden's oldest cafe

by Sjalen Written Jan 5, 2006

This place claims to be Sweden's oldest patisserie and whatever the truth to that is, the stuff they have here is gorgeous and the interior is lovely. Don't miss it. There are also light dishes like pies etc. here but you really should come for the cakes.

Favorite Dish: Cream filled Danish pastries...ehum...

  • Mariann's krog: Swedish home made dishes

If you want to eat home made Swedish food visit this small restaurant with an "indian-feel" to it. (I mean the indians in America, not the country India).
You can also take a drink and in the evening the place turns to a pub with lot of students.
