Check out the rebuilding of the last Swedish brig Gerda.
Some history of the original brig: She was build in Gävle in 1868. She have sailed to Australia, South America and Africa, but then she aged the journeys become shorter and shorter and at the end of her days she sailed mostly to harbours around the Baltic Sea and Denmark. After her duties she became a museum ship from 1936 until 1959. But due to lack of maintenance the ship decayed, and in 1959 the ship was burnt.
A castle ?
My first though when I saw this building was that this could be a castle. Later I found out that this is just a fire station, built in the late 19th century by the architect Ferdinand Boberg .
In the centre you can see the very nice telephone booth. I am from a country where one booth look like the other - so I was quite fascinated by this nice one in the centre.
Gavle old town
This a small very very nice quartier of woodenbuildings from the 18th and 19th century. Soo nice to walk among the narrow streets!
The little guy on the fountain
In the small rectangular park at the central square there is a cute fountain. The base is surrounded by guys like this little fellow and on the top stands another...
