During july you can find a fiddlers meeting every weekend within 50 km of Hudiksvall. These meetings is usually at least one day where you can experience folkmusic in every bush! If it is nice wether it is a day worth spending. My favorite is the one in Bjuråker where you also can see how old handikrafts are made and how the old houses were used. But if you dont wan´t to spend a whole day you can go every wednesday evening in teh summer to Norrby were there are fiddlersgathering between 19:00 and 23:00. This local Open air museum is so beautiful situated by the Dellenlakes that it is worth the ride. It is called Norrbo hembygdsgård but situated in the village Gammelsträng.

The grand 19th century yellow stone facade of this hotel, with its pillars and arches looks more like a typical Swedish town hall. The hotel has been refurbished in 2005 and is one of the grand buildings in the town of Hudiksvall.

During the summer months fishing would be done from one of the islands out towards the bay. The women would row several kilometers back to the town and deliver the fish so that it could be sold. In winter the fisher families would return and reside in the fishermen houses. Here one can see the typical architecture and atmosphere of Sweden some 200 years ago.

The rysskulan or the Russian Cannon Ball can be seen at the stairs up to the pulpit. It was fired against the Church by the Russian in the night between 22 and 23 May 1721. The original cannon ball was stolen a few years ago, so one can only see a fake one today :-)

The church got the main part of its fixtures and decorations through the restaurants of 1888 and 1938. The 1938 restoration was led by Agi Lindgren, the famous architect. Before 1888 the interior was pear-white like "normal" Scandinavian Churches, but the renovations broke a trend creating the warm and colourfull interior.

Housed in a former bank, the museum displays finds from various archaeological digs in the area. Excavations uncovered an Iron Age burial site and a Malsta runic stone that was inscribed with upright strokes. Local medieval wood carving also is displayed, most of the work by Haaken Gulleson, who was the most distinguished artisan in this form. Boats, ship models and fishing equipment reveal how the locals earned their livelihood. On the second floor is a display of peasant art collections including sledges, textiles, chests and clocks, along with folkloric costumes. Middle-class interiors from the late 18th and 19th centuries are re-created. The paintings of John Sten hold particular interest. This local son dabbled in an extremely decorative and fanciful style.

Visit the preserved farmhouses around the county of Hälsingland. There are around 41 locations open for tourists.
These farmhouses have been restaured on order to show the way of life in the old days.
Furniture, tools etc have been carefully assembled through auctions all over the county. It is beautiful and interesting. A living link to history one might say!
If you don't have the opportunity to visit the farmhouses on location in the county of Hälsingland, there are some in oper-air museum of Skansen in Stockholm.
