Sheeps on Gotland by vec One of the most known symbols for Gotland is the sheep. Well, it's actually not sheeps everywhere on the Island, but if driving around you will definately see some. You can actually tune in to 106,1 MHz and listen to a radiostation on Gotland called Radio Four. The Swedish word for sheep, "får" is pronounced like the number four in English. And it's not by coincidence that their logotype is in the shape of a sheep. http://www.radiofour.nu/ Leave a Comment

by Sjalen Being on an island there is a fair bit of wind, and here it is used. About a fifth of Gotland's electricity is produced by wind by 160 or so windmills. One of Sweden's biggest wind farms is in the south, at Näsudden, and is the most dense land-based windfarm area with around 100 of those mills. Summertime you can visit it and learn about the history of windfarms in Sweden since the early experimental days in the 1970s until today's huge mills. Leave a Comment

Cikoria by Sjalen Summer on Gotland means flowers everywhere along the roadside, and the "national" flower of Gotland is the wonderful light purple "cikoria", in fact one of my favourite flowers it's so pretty. Leave a Comment

by Sjalen The Gotland windmills look like no other Swedish windmills and there are times when you expect Don Quijote to appear along the limestone roads. The one in the picture has lost its wings but you will find plenty in good shape still. Leave a Comment

Many local inhabitants used to have a very negative to visitors especially to visitors from the Swedish mainland, the reason is that many visitors behaved very rude and tend to be superior. This attitude has started to change (from both side) especially as the local inhabitants realise they are very dependent on the three annual months of tourism for their income. Also if you're going to the countryside of Gotland please be aware that many people have a low level of English or don't speek it at all, however if you do behave in a nice way they will do their best to help you anyway. This is an organisation who have lectures and tours about culture, traditions and nature in Gotland. It is a non-political organisation, so when you go to Gotland. Check with them if they have anything interesting for you. Perhaps they only have tours in the Swedish language, but ask the tour guides. Leave a Comment
