Favorite thing: In earlier times the sea level was much higher than now, so it could be that from this fortress the people could watch out over the sea (which you can´t do now) and they had time to seek protection in the fortress if some enemy did show up.
Note that the Swedish word 'Slottet' normally means 'The Palace', but in this case - in Gottish - just means a steep part of the land.
