Close to the river you’ll find “TioPepe's”, a pizzeria/restaurant where you can have both lunch, and then during the evenings also a nice dinner. Specially during the summer this place is great and priceworth.
Around the corner you’ll find “Pepe’s bar”, where you can watch football- and icehockey-games on the sport channels.
Favorite Dish: The planksteak is great.
If you’re looking for cheaper food there are three McDonalds in the city. One at the shopping center Freeport outside centrum, and another two inside and outside the other shopping centre, Kungsmassan.
Favorite Dish: Well, a I have never said "no" to a Big Mac Menu...
One of the most wellknown restaurants in Kungsbacka is “Ester”. Not only for the fantastic food, but even more for the unwelcomed visitor the restaurant had a few years back. An afternoon a big moose walked into the local. Unfortunately he was way too hungry to take the entrance door as everyone else. Instead he jumped through the big window…
He was lost, far away from the forest, and then got scared by a car who passed by. So he took the quickest way to safety, which was a restaurant full of people who was eating or waiting for their dinner…
Fortunately no one got badly injured, not even the moose. He was hiding inside the bar for 40 minutes, unable to get out again, until finally a hunter arrived and managed to push him out of the building. At last out there again, the moose ran away, and took a bath in the nearby river. He is then supposed to have returned to the forest, without even paying for the food… The incident was fully covered in all the biggest swedish tabloids the day after, talk about good publicity!
Apart from that guest, the atmosphere at Ester is great. During the day and evening it’s a restaurant, while it after 22 it becomes a nightclub. Definitely worth a visit, since it’s one of the most popular places in town.
UPDATE 2010: Ester has changed location, after it burned down in 2005. It's now located a few hundred meters further away, but still the best restaurant and night club in town.
Favorite Dish: I prefer the different kind of meat they have there. Ester is also famous for it's coffe drinks.
Everybody knows about the English Tudor-style castle just outside of Kungsbacka. It is certainly worth a tour. There is a very romantic coffee/light lunch restaurant on the facility.
The important secret tip, is that the same family that built the castle built another house in a most romantic area, with an outstanding view, lovely pier, that you would just love to live in.
This is called "Onsala Herrgard". An English style, colonial, country-house with an extra high style and taste. Not only is there a very important restaurant for lunch and dinner, but it is also a hotel that is extremely reasonable!
It would be extremely nationalistic to say that this English style house is more romantic, livable, and better planned than Swedish houses........
It is recommended that you visit and walk around the facilities. At least stay for coffee and cake.... Small, romantic, architecturally important, beautiful, and air that seems to be full of positive ions.
You can be sure of a gracious reception whether you're just having a cup of coffee or staying for one of the finest meals in the area. You will quickly discover why this places an ideal venue for small conferences for managers.
Favorite Dish: This facility is actually less than 30 minutes away from downtown Goteberg. It's a super escape hotel for either the businessman or the tourist (with automobile) who has had enough of the big-city plastic hotels.
Sitting down to breakfast in the Victorian style room with views over the sea, well dressed and professional staff, breakfast to order, super coffee, with a start like this every day is a vacation.....
The minute that you walk into this beautiful 1900 wooden building, you will feel the friendliness and generosity of the Hostess/owner.
Had enough of overpriced bistros? Tired of fast food? Would you like to be served rather than processed? Like to get away from loud "kids"?
Right in the middle of the city is this "island of Transquillity".
Every day is a different menu. It feels like there are seven different types of bread, a soup, perhaps 14 fresh salads, two warm main courses, at least four selections of warm potatoes and vegetables, cookies, and coffee.
The fixed-price of 100 Swedish crowns is extremely good value. The neavue attracts much of the local business community, and women out for a day in the city, and this is proven to be an ideal place to take business guests.
Certainly there are sufficient salads and cheeses to satisfy most vegetarians. However, if the vegetarian desires something warm, the Hostess will prepare something special for you!
The only downside of this beautiful experience is that the food tastes so good, you are permitted to take all-you-can-eat, and it appears that most people do tend to get carried away at a buffet.
