Favorite thing: I noticed the excellent stocks in Swedish tourist offices (Toristbyrå in Swedish) throughout my whole trip, but the one in Eksjö was one of the highlights among them. There is a huge room with countless brochures, maps and books about Eksjö, Småland and the surrounding provinces. Especially the brochures of Österlen (26 pages) and Småland (76 pages) are very much informative and have excellent photos inside. I mention the pages because for me that’s quite unusual for free of charge brochures (or maybe I compared with the ones available in tourist offices in German cities….). The staff in Eksjö’s tourist office is very helpful and knowledgeable as well. And, on top of that, there is a computer with free internet access inside of the office. Maps of Eksjö and a small leaflet for Skurugata are available. Leaflets come in Swedish, German and English.
Opening hours:
Mon-Fri: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sat: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and additionally in summer times until end of August: Sun: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Fondest memory: Directions:
You cannot miss it. It is at the northern end of the old town, street Norra Storgatan. Swedish tourist offices have the characteristic yellow-blue sign.

Favorite thing: Oh, easy to say: it is a wonderful, very atmospheric town where we spent a great time!
Last year we learned that EKSJö this year ( 2003 ) will celebrate its 600 year ANNIVERSARY with lots of festivities!
Each month there are special attractions and you can ask MORE INFO at the Tourist office. The address is in my EKSJö INTRO page, so have a look there.
There is also a NEW BOOK on the occasion of this ANNIVERSARY!
Fondest memory: Just walking around, having lunch and tea, talk with lots of people and have a shopping spree, a simple one, but it was one!
Noticed that all residents were already working for this year's festivities: the town must look great now!!

Eksjö is an architectural wonder with its wooden houses in old, Swedish style. It has won many international prizes, such as Europa Nostra, for its architecture and it is very cosy to just stroll...

One of the best preserved timber towns in Sweden

Eksjo was built in the 16th century and, except for about 40 buildings destroyed by fire in the southern part of the old town in the 18th century, many of its buildings have been preserved.

Eksjö is a typical Swedish town. Take a walk around town on its cobblestoned streets and get charmed by the Swedish trademark - red houses!! :D
