Do you have an Astrid Lindgren book about Emil at home (Michel in German)? In that case you might remember that he ran off with a horse to see the beloved family farm hand Alfred when Alfred was in the army. This is where he was - on the huge excercise field at Hultsfred where the Kalmar regiment were during huge excersises before being moved to Eksjö. Today, not much is left as buildings have been moved to Eksjö or elsewhere, and houses been built on parts of the heather moorland, but you can still see some remains, including this exhibition on life here. Once so important it brought the railway to town...

Address: Östra Långgatan
This huge company was founded by a Swede even though Mr Hedström left Sweden for the US as a nine-year-old. If you want to see where his inspiration came from, Grindsbo outside little Lönneberga is where you should go.

Favorite thing: The most famous rock festival in Sweden started 1986. Just as in Glastonbury or Roskilde, you find a place to pitch your tent and then you leave it, not to return until you're covered in mud and full of enthusiasm after some great gigs :-))) For those who just enjoy good music and aren't that interested in nightlife, there is now a camping area a bit further away from the main mayhem.
It's a great festival and I will always remember it as the place where I saw my beloved Men They Couldn't Hang :-) Other bands seen here through the years are Radiohead, Marilyn Manson, Midnight Oil, Suede and many others, along with Morrisey, Bjýrk, Iggy Pop...

Fondest memory: ...if I starved on the streets of Bristol, I starved worse on a Briiiiitish ship...:-)
