There are plenty of mushrooms in the forests around Markaryd. The right season is from July to September. And everyone can walk in any forest and pick mushrooms, lingonberries or blueberries. Very nice!

This is the place where the peace treaty of Knared between Denmark and Sweden was signed 20 January 1613. It is said that the Danish King Christian IV himself was present and that the treaty was signed using the flat stone in front of the memorial.

Markaryd has a long history as the southermost Swedish border station towards Denmark (until the peace treay of Roskilde 1658). The post line between Stockholm and Hamburg that passed Markaryd was founded in 1620. A post office has been located here already since that time. The building on the picutre is however younger. The post office was located here from 1862 and some years onwards.
