We had the good fortune of being in Abisko for this event. We were allowed to attend the traditional Midsummer buffet at the restaurant. The buffet had all sorts of salmon, reindeer, herring, and salad as first course choices. "Main" courses included baked salmon with cheese, and meatballs with lingonberries. Dessert was remarkable: strawberry soup with vanilla ice cream. Alcohol of all sorts was plentiful (and cost extra... ;)
We truly felt honored to be able to take part in this Swedish tradition not every tourist experiences.

This is the fell station sauna down by Lake Torne. For those of you worried about this Finnish tradition, so loved by Swedes too, there ARE separate times for men and women since most like it that way, but also a mixed session. This particular sauna has a spectacular setting overlooking the mountains and the lake but it is a kilometres walk from the fell station itself. If you've hiked along Kungsleden and can't stand more walking, there is also a sauna in the station basement :)
