coming from south, the airplane is the fastest way to come to Luleå! But the train is also nice, it takes like 14 hours' from Stockholm...
by bus (www.llt.se), but Luleå is not so big so walking is also an OK alternative.. If you want to get around to places around both Luleå and Norrbotten, rent a car (at OK, Budget or Statoil)

The local bus system in Luleå (LLT) is quite well-developed. Buses operate between most of the suburbs and central Luleå, as well as to the university and to Storheden (industrial area with many of the larger stores, like big supermarkets and outlet shops).
One single ticket for an adult (over 16 years) is 16 SEK, you can use the same ticket if you change to another bus within one hour of buying the ticket. If you are going to Gammelstad or somewhere else further away, the ticket is 26 SEK.
If you plan to use the LLT buses several times, you can buy a card that you can "top up" with any amount of money. With that card a single trip is only 12.80 SEK (9.60 during off-peak hours). Several people can use the same card on the same trip. However, when you buy that card you have to pay a deposit fee of 50 SEK (which you get back when you return the card). You can buy the card from the LLT office or on board any of the buses. There are also cards that give you unlimited bus travel for a month or more, but these are only good value if you travel a lot by bus.
The LLT office is located near the main bus interchange at Smedjegatan (intersects Storgatan - this is about a ten minute walk from Loet, which is the bus station where the long-distance and county buses stop. Only a few of the LLT buses stop at Loet).

That is the bus station in the city, you can obviously get here by flight, train, bus and own car. I was driving here all the way from Finland, which is actually not too far.
