If you are planning a trip to this region it is good to have your map before you travel here. A good website to buy your detailed maps of Sweden and the Fjällen area is:http://www.lantmateriet.se/

I bought all my maps here. Not only for the Fjällen, but also for other regions and trips in Sweden. The maps cost 99,50 SEK (excl. shipping). The scale is 1:100.000

You can get an overview of all the "Fjäll" maps they sell here: Maps of the Swedish Fjällen. (alternatively: choose English language, top left side, then in the menu NATIONAL MAP SERIES, Fjällkartan, Fjällkartan 1:100.000 - folded).

To make it more easy for myself I copied and laminated parts of the map at home. Because they are laminated, it makes them less vulnerable for rain/bad weather. For each 2 / 3 days hike I made one laminated map. This is a smaller area, so I no need to fold out the original map (clumsy in rain and windy conditions). All fits on 1 A4 laminated sheet --> very handy :-)

Planning a multi-day hiking trip, calls for good planning. Not only about the route and where to stay, but also with what to bring. Think that everything you pack is more kilos on your back. And hiking long distances, the weight will count!

One tactic I heard to keep the packing list under control, is 'only' to bring things you can use in three different ways. Hahaha, rather drastic I think, but it gives a good line of way to think. Make sure you really 'need' the things you bring. But maybe add a thing or two that feel like absolute 'luxury' :-))

One of the most important things is probably your shoes. Your feet are your mode of transportation. You need these to hike. If anything goes wrong with those you are in deep trouble! Good shoes are a must, and maybe even more important: shoes you are used to! New shoes will cause blisters for sure.
