Oven Pancake with bacon - Fläskpannkaka

by Thoomuch

Thursday is the traditional day for pancakes (and yellow pea soup) in Sweden. Instead of spending time frying individual pancakes in the frying pan, here is a delicious alternative. It can be made with or without baconFor one family serving (for about 4 persons) you will need the following ingredients: 2.5 dl baking flour; 1/2 teaspoon salt; 6 dl milk; 3 eggs; 2 - 3 tablespoons of margarine or butter; 200 - 300 grams of bacon or (salty) smoked pork (not sliced). Preparing:Set the oven thermostat at 225°C. Make the pancake mix. Dice the bacon into cubes of roughly 5 x 5 x 5 mm. Fry in a frying pan until they get a brown surface. Spread the bacon cubes onto a large oven pan, with an edge at least 2 cm high. Another alternative is to brown the bacon directly in the oven pan in the oven! Pour the pancake mix over the bacon cubes and bake in the middle of the oven until golden brown. Should...

Janssons Frestelse

by Thoomuch

This simple and well tasting dish is suitable both for feasts and everyday meals. The only ingredient that may be slightly tricky to find is the Swedish anchovies. This version of anchovy is not as salty as the ones that are sometimes used on pizza. Try IKEA's food corner. They carry these items world wide! For 4 portions you need: 8 - 10 large potatoes; 2 medium onions; 20 anchovy filets (2 cans, 100 g each); 3 dl whipping cream; bread crumbs; 1 - 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine.Preparing:Set the oven for 200 - 225°C. Peel the potatoes and the onions. Slice the onions thinly and the potatoes into thin sticks, roughly 0,5 cm x 0,5 cm. (a food processor can be a handy help here!) Wash the potato strips in cold water and let them drain.Grease a large ovenproof dish. Place a few layers of potato strips at the bottom of the dish. Next a layer of onion slices followed by a layer of...

Adrian_Loh's Restaurant Tip

by Adrian_Loh

The reindeer chow was good, its like how one of the tourists described it, its one big reindeer extravaganza, you get to ride one, take photos with one, play with one and at the end of the day, eat one! well it might look cruel (i'm a chicken and beef person) but i guess its part of their culture, reindeers are bred for this i suppose. Its a reindeer stew with carrots and potatos, followed by some berry juice.. Berry good!!! :PNo pic of the reindeer but i inserted a pic of the huskies, lovely buggers....

If you are on the ship and having some extra money, then head for buffet.Eat and drink as much as you want. Including many different kind of foods which you probably don't get every day. Also beer, wine and beverages as much as you want. A little bit expensive, like almost everything on the ships, but worth it anyway.

In Sweden, most of the restaurants have a special lunch set. It consists of a hot dish and a drink, sometimes, the salad is included. As you know that life is pretty expensive in Scandinavian countries, you should make the most of the 'cheap lunch'.Usually, at lunch, you just go in the restaurants and sit down. At first, I didn't know and was waiting at the entrance for a waiter. I was wondering why the waiter didn't come to me even though he saw me at the entrance. I just felt stupid afterward !! :)

Biblos: Biblos

by AdHocTravel

Biblos provided a very warm atmosphere and a no rush approach to service. The waiter chatted me up for some time. Turned out he had lived and worked in Santa Monica (near my home) so we had a great talk about the area.A nice 'buzz' of activity but not too loud.

In recent years Stockholm has become one of Europe's most popular cities for dining. They have a tradition of eating pea soup on Thursdays. It's normally served with salt pork, sausage and mustard and is accompanied by hot Arrack punch and beer. It's followed by Swedish panncakes with jam and whipped cream.
