If you like cider – this will be heaven !

by Trekki

I usually don’t like cider, as it is too sparkling for me. But… somehow I had to taste this one – how could I resist cider with berry taste?? (I could live on any kind of red berries for the rest of my life – somehow). So, while I was in Sweden, we often bought some cans of cider in several flavours. And I can hardly wait until I get back and can buy more of them.By now, there are even more flavours available, which are listed in the website below. Rekorderlig cider is being produced by Åbro bryggeri and according to their website, made only with pure spring water and fruit wine of the highest quality. Maybe that’s why it tasted so good to me!Haha, when I lokked up Vimmerby, where the brewery is located, I found out that this is also home of famous Pippi Longstocking :-)Vimmerby tourism website It comes in two different strengths, 4,45% in the 500 ml bottle and 2,25% in the 500 ml cans...

Fish – so fresh that you believe you swim :)

by Trekki

Ah, if you like fish then nothing is better than FRESH Swedish fish. (I have to mention maybe that I live in the centre of Germany and won’t even think to buy fish here, as I am never sure if it is him or maybe his grandfather…) It is no matter where you buy the fish in Sweden – either in supermarkets or on fish markets, it will be fresh and you can see it ! These guys did swim and dream of fish babies just a couple of hours ago ! You can get the whole pallet, from salmon to tuna, fresh crabs and shrimps, mussels, marinated crabs in all sizes and spices. YUMM…Prices vary of course, depending on the amount. But for me, the prices are still very much reasonable, much less than I would have to pay for in Germany. And this, despite usually food in Sweden is a bit more expensive than in Germany. So if you are in Sweden and have rented a house for example, or are out for caming – what are you...

All tourist and gift shops in Sweden.: Dala horse.

by Dizzyhead

Dalecarlian Horse or Dala horse are the names on this wooden gift, apopular thing from Dalarna, a region in the middle of Sweden. It was mostly used as a toy for children in the past, but nowdays it is a symbol of Dalarna and Sweden in general. Buy a Darelcian horse. Something very typical Swedish. The price can be very different, if it is a handmade one or if it is a massproduced dalahäst. I have seen in many secondhand shops that you can buy this horse there too. I remember from my childhood that we had many at home, but where are they now... No idea, I guess I have to ask my mother that question. I would like to have one by myself.

Most food shops in Gotland.: Salmbär.

by Dizzyhead

This is a jam with special berries from Gotland. I dont know if we have these berries in any other place of Sweden. I dont think so, but it is a very delicious jam and I have tried it. You can buy in the most food shops in Gotland cans with this jam. It is quite expensive, and you must probably pay around 5 euros for a smaller can.

It doesnt matter the name, only if it is cheaper!: Buy alcohol before you visit Sweden.

by Dizzyhead

In Sweden we have only one monopolized shop which sells alcohol, called Systembolaget. Usually you find this shop in every town or where people live. Swedish people like to drink alcohol and spend expensive money on this thing. Well, the alcohol is very expensive in Sweden, so if I was you I should buy my alcohol before I enter Sweden. If you are in the south of Sweden you should go to Denmark (Helsingör and Copenhagen) and buy all your alcohol. You save money on that. If you are in the south of Sweden, Denmark is very close if you really need to buy lots of alcohol. And the Danish breweries make good and delicious beer too! But dont buy the alcohol in Norway, because then you loose a lot of money. Too expensive there. Many swedish crones for this beverage!!!!! It is not cheap to visit Sweden and then become drunk here.

Handicraft by the Sami people.

by Dizzyhead

In the north of Sweden you have a minority living called samer, sami people. They used to live only with their reeindeers and they were very good handycraftmen. They are still very good at handycraft, and if you visit the north of Sweden, or markets or maybe in a special shop in our capital Stockholm, you can find products made by Sami people. You can buy knives, clothes, paintings, jewelalries and many other things. Usually all handycrafts are of very good quality and that is why they cost quite much. It is not just a product from IKEA, which everybody in Europe has.

Tip Photo
In the market.: Sami handcrafts when you are at Jokkmokk market.

by Dizzyhead

You can find this shop all over the north of Sweden. They can sell things on markets first of all. look around and ask the locals, they usually know it. you can buy local homemade hanycrafts done by the Sami people. It can be different things. Go around and look. I bought a necklace, but you choose what you want to buy. The handycraft things are usually very good quality and expensive, but very beautiful. All these hand made things which the Sami people sells are very expensive. Because first the material is of very good and xpensive quality and then they make such beautiful things of them.

Tip Photo
Systembolaget.: Here you buy alcohol.

by Dizzyhead

This is a shop owned and controled by the government. This shop sells alcohol, and that is the only alcohol salesman in Sweden except from bars and night clubs. But one advantage they have, they have a very huge sortiment of all kind of wines, vodkas, beers and liquers. I am used to our system, that we only can buy here. Of course, it would be convienent to buy a bottle of red wine in the petrol station, but I like my system. I dont wanna change it now. On systembolaget they sell expensive alcohol. Too much, try to buy so much as you can in the taxfree shops before you enter Sweden.
