    Kirseberg and Beijers Park

by Sjalen Updated Aug 21, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Kirseberg has Malmö's only slightly hilly area (with its old execution hill), and a place where those of you who like to get under the skin of a city should go. The hilly part is called Backarna ("the Hills") and has its own annual street festival. The area has kept its working- and middle class Malmö feel, with small Scanian cottages mixed with bigger apartment blocks in older styles, and some local restaurants. Just avoid the ugly modern square and its local drunks.

Close to Kirseberg is Beijers Park which is one of the biggest parks in Malmö. Founded by a couple of local grocers in the 1880s to improve this part of Malmö, the park has an animal themed playground and a general nature theme. Summertime there is a café, and on Valpurgis ("valborg"), it is one of the more genuine places to go in Malmö for the bonfire celebrations.

Several local buses run to both Kirseberg and the park.

    Is it a UFO!?!?

by Sjalen Updated Aug 21, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

No, it's Hyllie Water Tower! In the 70s it was known as Bradbury Tower and housed a record studio! It is 62 metres high and at the top you have a great view of the plains of southern Sweden and across to Denmark. There used to be a water exhibition here. At night, the tower is illuminated in blue and from my former balcony it then truly resembled a UFO since the distance from there made the "legs" disappear. The surprise comes at Christmas when the lights go red instead, and it often has all sorts of flashing lights when there are hockey games in the neighbouring arena.

You get there by bus or train to Hyllie station.

    Greetings Earth creatures!

    Vättern lake

    by Kuznetsov_Sergey Written Oct 30, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When I was a schoolboy and studied geography of foreign countries, I have remembered very well the names of two greatest lakes of Sweden Vännern and Vättern. Whether I could to assume then, that I see one of them with my own eyes?

The Vättern lake is is in the south of Sweden. Its length is 130 km, width - 31 km, its area - 1900 km. It lays in the tectonic downturn profound by ancient glaciers. Prevailing depths are about 20-50 m, the maximal depth is 119 m. Coasts are abrupt, poorly dismembered. They are very picturesque. In the widest part the lake does not freeze. The lake is adjoined by national park Tiveden. The lake is a part of an internal waterway Geteborg - Stockholm.

    Legal graffiti-wall.

    by erik0240 Written May 17, 2005

In the middle of Malmö, right in the centre-spot, there´s two walls on which it´s fully legal to paint graffiti on. These two walls are the sides of a building called "P-huset Anna" ("Parkinghouse Anna"), and is a big carpark-building. You´ll easily recognize the building when seeing it because of all the painted surfaces.

The walls are very often newly painted with various motives...so why not stop by and have a look?

    Paste this link into your webpage to get a description how to get to the wall from the Centralstation (a 5 minutes walk);
