Malmo stadium is home of the popular swedish football club Malmo FF. It was built for the World Cup in 1958 and has a capacity of 26.500. Famous players, such as Martin Dahlin, Patrik Andersson, and Jonas Thern used to play for Malmo FF.
Malmö FF is in the Premier league and famous for being where Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Juventus fame started his career. He was of course first sold to Ajax and that happens to several MFF players and sold top scorers are often the reason for the team not scoring for a while. If that's not enough, IFK Malmö is another team to follow in a lower division and there are plenty of good teams in the surrounding towns. Malmö FF also has a top womens team with several national team players.
If your´e in Malmö between march/april to october/november you should go to see the local Soccer Team Malmö FF at the newly built Swedbank Stadium.
Malmö FF is the most succesful soccer team in Sweden (although some would argue that Gothenburg is more succesful) with 14 Swedish cup wins and 16 Swedish championship wins.
The last time Malmö won the Swedish championship was in 2010.
The atmosphere on Swedbank Stadium, commonly known as "Stadion" (The stadium), is always electrifying during matchday. Malmö Fans is known as one of the best and nicest fan groups in Swedish soccer and during match they never stop singing. Even if you don´t like soccer, you should go and experience the atmosphere of an entire stadium singing together.
for the absolute best experience you should try to get ticket for the games against Helsingborg, Gothenburg and AIK. For the games against Helsingborg and Gothenburg you should book well in advance.
AIK also have a large fanbase and the battle soundlevel during those matches tend to be high :)
I have had my season tickets for four years now and every time I step into the Stadium my heart starts pounding fast of expectation...
Tickets vary depending on the opposition and vary between $20 and $55 (adult).
Two Thumbs up
- The atmosphere
Equipment: The only true color for a malmö fan is the Skyblue, so wear anything that´s skyblue or you could buy something in the shop at the stadium :)
Malmö FF were formed in 1914 and finished mid-table in the 2006 Allsvenskan (Swedish premier league) that runs from April until early November.
The Malmö Stadion was built for the 1958 world cup, updated for Euro 1992 and is now starting to show it's age but a new ground is apparently in the planning process. The capacity is 27500 and the average attendance in 2004 was just over 20000. Tickets can had be via a Ticketmaster website but you can also pay at the turnstyles on the day of the game.
