Malmö Festival, Malmö
If you can get to Malmö during Mid-August, you must take advantage of the Malmöfest. It is an extremely large festival with hundreds of food and craft booths, rides, and at least a dozen stages with live entertainment.
It takes place throughout Malmö's historic area and shopping area right in the middle of town. The epicenter of the festival is Malmö's huge main square, where there are stages with live music. Food from all over the world is also available.
There were many kinds of live entertainment at Malmöfest 2000. We listened to a few bands, saw locals competing in odd events, watched boat races, and listened to a comedian. The most unusual was the American Indian band. Not usual for their music or dress... I think they were most unusual because for some reason, the blond guy on lead guitar just doesn't look like an Indian to me...
According to the city of Malmö website, 1.5 million people visit during this week-long event.
We have been to Malmo at least 5 times in our lives and it always looked very cosy, little and nice town (or suburb of Copenhagen) in southern Sweden. Squares always were full of beautifully decorated flowers, cafes seemed to be averagely busy and if you came on weekends you could see maybe a little bit more of people.
When we came there in August, 2008, the town seemed to be boiling, the big square was full of kiosks selling all kinds of food from all corners of the world. Then every street had a tent or kiosk either selling or playing something. We did not stay there up till evening, but what we got from free leaflet that they had evening concerts with major swedish pop stars, I assume schlager lovers would melt straight on the street.
This is a "Must See" and "Must do" Activity if you are in Malmo during Summer season, you have to attend on of those Summer Festival by the park. There you can enjoy live band with people lying on the grass, drinking beer and having a small picnic.
There are stalls set up for games and food too.
Taking place in the second week of August every year. Activities include theatre, music, performance, sports, film, comedy, dance and much more.
