Malmo is a very easily walkable city and indeed it is a pleasure to wander. If you do need to use the local public transport this looks simple enough and buses run regularly to pretty much anywhere you could want to go.

The main bus termini are at Central Station and Gustav Adolf Square and there are a range of ticketing options; from a single ride ticket to 24 hour and 72 hour passes. Tickets need to be purchased before boarding from machines or Skånetrafikens offices and the local tourist information centre on Skeppsbron.

At the time of writing (March 2012) a single ticket costs 21 SEK, the 24 hr pass 65 SEK and the 72 hr 165 SEK.

The only public transport available in Malmo is the local bus system. But the city is small enough that you won't need a bus, except for taking a visit to the Turning Torso, which is a little bit out of town. But still, in fine weather, should you be lucky to get that, walking to the Turning Torso is not strenuous.

Getting around Malmö wasn't really a problem as we got the Malmö card that entitled us to free rides on the local buses. Yes, it's the card with the duck's ass and we got it at the the Malmö Tourist Office ( Malmö Central Station ). It also included our entrance fee to the Malmöhus Castle, Malmö Museums and the Science and Maritime House etc. Not too bad a deal.

A card that's valid for 1 day costs 125SEK ($13)

Getting around Malmö and the surrounding areas is quite easy. The net of trainrail is exstensive, and the buses regular. However: It might be worth while to study the different tickets. If you for example are going to see København and Helsingör you might want to by a Öresund rundt-ticket for 199 SEK. You are forsed to take the train over the bridge and the ferry on the reurn though.

A "Rabattkort" will give you a discount of 20% on all journeys in Skåne and Denmark. The backside is thet you hafe to charge it up with atleast 200 SEK.

The green local buses of Malmo are operated by Skanetrafikken. A popular bus line for tourists is number 20 (Ringlinjen) which serves a round tour through Malmo. A single bus ticket can be bought from the driver. It costs 15 SEK and is valid for 1 hour (2003).

Local transport in Malmö is served by efficient network of Skånetrafiken buses. They are in different colors for interurban and regional transport, but all seem to share the same pricing system. The ticket within Malmö costs 14 SEK and can be purchased from busdrivers.

Most of the local buses have stop at the Gustav Adolfs Torg, and most regional buses stop close to the Railway Station.

If you plan to use lot of buses and go to a lot of museums, you can also purchase Malmö card that costs 120/150/180 SEK for 1/2/3 days. You can buy it in Tourist Office in Main Railway Station.

It is easy getting around Malmö as the buses run to most parts of the city and they are fairly frequent. Ten minutes in between buses during rush hour and 15-20 minutes at weekends. If you look for a particular bus, most of them run from either the Central station or Gustav Adolfs Torg (square). Don't be confused about the colours of the buses. They all used to be purple but these days some are green too as some lines are run by different companies. You still use the same tickets for all of them. A single fare is SEK 14 (you can pay on the bus) and takes you all over the city within an hour, whilst a chargable card has to be charged for at least SEK 200 so that's useful only if you stay a while. Cards, timetables and information can be had at the Skånetrafiken centres at the Central Station, Gustav Adolfs Torg, Värnhem and Södervärn. There they can also tell you about trips throughout the province (yellow buses) and about the regular trains to Copenhagen and commuter tickets to it.
