The central station in Malmö is Sweden’s third largest station and was first opened in 1856 but within ten years had been destroyed by fire. The building was reconstructed, keeping the original the bell tower and reopened in 1872

Malmö's position at strategic point of entrance to Sweden and Scandinavian peninsula means that it has excellent connections. The Öresund bridge between Malmö and Copenhagen has brought even better connections to the fast developing Öresund region.
Trains within Sweden
I arrived to Malmö by train from Göteborg in less than 3 hours by fast X2000 train. It takes 4,5 hours from Stockholm, and there are also cheaper and somewhat slower InterCity train options (3h30m to Göteborg and 6h20m to Stockholm).
Schedules and details on Swedish Railways website www.sj.se
Trains in Öresund region departure every 20 minutes around the clock linking Helsinborg, Lund and Malmö in Sweden with Copenhagen Kastrup Airport, Copenhagen and Helsingor in Denmark.
It takes 35 minutes to the centre of Copenhagen and only 20 minutes to Kastrup airport from Malmö.
Schedules and details on Swedish (www.sj.se) or Danish (www.dsb.dk) Railways site.
Unfortunately, since the trains use lower level of the bridge you don’t get nice views (as I was hoping) when crossing the bridge.
There’s also bus line #999 linking Malmö and Copenhagen, competing with the trains.
Malmö’s airport Sturup (www.sturup.com is served by several airlines offering cheap flights, although with the new bridge connection Copenhagen’s Kastrup Airport (www.cph.dk)can be considered the main airport of the region.
Öresundbridge by car
From what I’ve heard it’s not very cheap to cross the bridge by car – you’ll find details on www.oeresundsbron.com.
You can reach Malmo easy by car from south Europe via the Oresunds-brigde (will open summer 2000) or by ferry from Denmark,Poland or Germany.
Or you can fly there to the airport called Sturup.
Will your in Malmo you can easy use you car or take a bus.
You can fly either directly to the Scanian airport of Sturup, which now has international flights from certain european destinations, or you can fly to Copenhagen Kastrup airport from where there are very frequent bus, train and hovercraft connections with Malmö.
Malmö has no underground or tram, but a good and confortable as well as frequent and reliable bus network. The buses are silent, smooth and non-polluting modern vehicles, and moderately priced. You can of course get day tickets or tourist cards for the transportation. Enquire at the Tourist Information.
