Wallåkra: Pottery and nature reserve

by Sjalen

A very well-known Scanian restaurant run by Vallåkra stoneware factory, this is in a lovely setting outside the village of Vallåkra. How about eating somewhere with a stream running beneath your floor - in fact, you can see it in a corner where the floor is made of glass. You can of course also sit outside in good weather and hear it. Then walk off those calories in the nearby nature reserve along the stream. It is only open until late afternoon daily, so ideal for lunch, but also has some barbecue evenings in summer and will welcome big parties any time you book. See the general tip for the pottery itself.

Backafallsbyn: Sweden's best whisky bar

by Sjalen

A conference centre where you can also stay (in cabins), this place has what was voted Sweden's best beer and whisky bar 2005. Whilst the beer list is OK but not that impressive to someone who used to live in Belgium, it is the whisky that impress and connaisseurs come from Scotland and all over Europe to try rare bottles. Yep, this picture shows their STANDARD assortment! Apart from this, the atmosphere is nice and the staff very friendly. Let's hope their own whisky destillery takes off soon!

Turistgården: Best starter I've ever had!

by Sjalen

The picture shows my dessert at this place with great value for money three course dinners. You can pick local fish or some meat dish as a main course and well, I have my own starter to recommend below :))) Summertime, there is a big veranda for sunny days, overlooking fields full of hiding pheasants and rabbits. It is open from 19.00 in the evenings (and daytime weekends) but their bar/pizza place opens at 18.00 if you want a drink. The starter consisting of a slice of local goats cheese put on toasted, dark rye bread with balsamic vinegar and honey drizzle...ah...:)))

Spettekaka

by sim1

Have you ever seen spettekaka before? Well, I hadn't, hahaha, so I was fascinated by it. Spettekaka is a traditional Skåne sweet cake. Spettekaka is a meringue-like cake, created by drizzling the batter (dozens of beaten eggs, sugar and a bit of potato flour) slowly over a cone-shaped spit rotating over a slow fire. This forms many lacy layers. Spettekaka is not a tiny cake, hahaha, these spettekaka's can be really big! I saw this spettekaka on a christmas market and of course I had to make a picture of it for VT and taste it. It tastes rather good but very sweet!

Mölle feskrökeri: Smoked fish

By the guest harbour in Mölle is this tiny house with a sailors' convenience shop and a deli counter full of wonderful fish to eat at one of the benches outside in the harbour. Smoked mackerel with garlic.

Flickorna Lundgren: Best cakes I've ever had!

by Sjalen

The Lundgren sisters wondered how they could keep the old farm when times were hard. They decided to set up a cafe and what a hit that turned out to be! Today, it is run by one of the sisters' son and people come in coach loads to taste the vanilla hearts made famous by the old king who loved them (he used to come here on his way to Sofiero Castle in Helsingborg) so make sure you don't come at Midsummer when it's full. The place is as expensive as you'd imagine somewhere this successful, but the ambiance and the strawberry lemonade is to die for! Strawberry lemonade.

Bryggeriet: Ysta Brewery Restaurant
