An equestrian explosion :-)

by Sjalen

Horses are more common here than anywhere in the already highly horse populated Sweden. If you want to look at them, you can visit the national Swedish warmblood stud at Flyinge outside Lund, or the famous Arabian thoroughbred stud Blommeröd at Höör (www.blommerod.com) where you can also ride. Then there are the outdoor competitions around Malmö in summer - the most famous being Falsterbo Horse Show (see Skanör or Malmö page). If you want to ride yourself, there are plenty of choices, particularly with the sturdy and characteristic Icelandic horses which despite their small size is an adult horse. They have charmed Swedish riders completely and new trekking farms pop up all the time, especially in Österlen (see my Simrishamn page) and around Helsingborg. There are also Haflingers (such as at Söderåsen in the picture - see my travelogue) and bashkir and the odd other breed - check through...

Beaches for everyone

by Sjalen

Scania has no archipelagoes like the more rocky coasts of Sweden. Instead, it has some wonderful beaches with something for everyone: If you want to go surfing, I recommend the beaches around Barsebäck and Lomma, north of Malmö, although Skanör and Falsterbo are also good. If you have children, Skanör has a blue flag beach with lifeguards in high season and the beaches around Trelleborg and Ystad are also popular as are the ones around Ängelholm in its bay where the water gets warm. For partying, Helsingborg has great beach life and so too does Malmö with its man-made Ribersborg beach full of activities and barbecue areas. For those of you who want a true nature experience and think that is what beaches should be like, head for famous Sandhammaren or Knäbäckshusen/Stenshuvud (see pages of Simrishamn and Kivik). Beaches in Scania are often quite "natural" and do not tend to have souvenir...

Top tennis

by Sjalen

Båstad is known for its Swedish Open tennis every July when world stars come to battle it out. It is also a nice summer town so why not pay it a visit. Thanks to Alexandra for the picture (http://hem.passagen.se/lansmansgarden/index)

Dramatic diving

The Kullaberg peninsula is full of seaside caves and steep cliffs and makes for some dramatic diving for northern Europe. See my Mölle page for info.
