The boats seems the must fun option when wanting to visit Drottningholm from the city centre, but there are of course alternatives. When you want to travel by public transport take the Underground (T-bana) to Brommaplan and from there change to bus 301-323, or alternatively 177 or 178 to Drottningholm.
The other option would be to travel here by car. There is a large car park just outside the Palace, so finding a parking spot isn't a problem. And the other good news is that parking is for free! Hahaha, which I still find unbelievable (but fantastic) knowing this is one of the major tourist attractions in Sweden and parking is for free! If you decided to travel by car, it is best to drop by on the website of Drottningholm Palace, where they have some good descriptions how to get here.
A enjoble way to travel to Drottningholm is by ferry. The ferry leaves from the heart of the city (Stadshusbron) all the way to the Palace. On the way you will have a nice view over Stockholm from the water. The ferry doesn't go all year round, but start approximately at the end of April and ends at the end of October. Depending on high or lowseason the ferry goes more frequently. Here is a link with the timetable for the ferry to Drottningholm.
