The vaults of the church are covered with paintings from 15th century.
Many shields (heraldics) are painted and show which families that did pay for the work.
Most well-known are the families "Tott" and "Natt och Dag".
The great triumph crucifix is considered being made in 1475. It was hidden away for a long time (in the days of "conflicts" between the protestants and the catholics). In 1934 it was put in its now-being place.

The Witch and the Witchery Hare

The vault paintings contain several interresting stories, but the most interresting of them all is the suit that describes the medevial legend of the "Witch and the Witchery Hare".
In the 18th century all paintings were over-painted with lime. They were restored in 1870. The other paintings in the vaults was then improved and re-painted but this suit is untoughed since they were painted in the 1460. The reason for this was that this paintings was considered so abominables, that they was immediately over-painted again with white lime.
The pictures describe how the Witch steals milk from the neigbour's cow with assistance of the Witchery Hare, that sucks milk from the dugs of the cow. Next picture shows the Devil helping the Witch when she makes butter from the milk.

The church was constructed in the 14th century, built with wood arches. Later in the 15th century brick arches and also the porch was constructed.
In 17th century the church tower was built and in the 18th the sanctuary.
The tower is built as a security tower, with small windows high up, a protection in those times.
Oldest parts of the church are some remaining walls dated from 12th century.

In fine weather you sit in the garden close to the church.
In the house there are expositions of local artists and also some small handycrafts you can buy.
The sign on the road that indicates the church for you says: "Vägkyrka" (=road church). This means a church open for the people that are "on the move".
The house is newly renovated and is serving as a meeting place for local people, mainly on Sundays after church.
After the coffe - don´t miss the beautiful and historically important church!

Favorite Dish: My recommendation is waffles with coffe. There are also some other cakes you can order.
