City on Water, Stockholm
Favorite thing: Tall ships always look majestic and here’s one that you can sleep in. For the last 60 years, the af Chapman has served as a youth hostel . Moored on the western shore of the islet Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm, Sweden , the ship is perhaps the third oldest iron-built ship in the world.
Favorite thing: Since I collect giraffes, one of my absolute favourite Stockholm scenes is this one - the giraffe cranes on Beckholmen. Off the beaten path but you will see them if you sail to Stadsgårdskajen or Skeppsbron / Nybrokajen and you can walk there easily if out strolling on Djurgården even if then you cannot enter the wharf itself, just check out all the cool houseboats.
Fondest memory: What I miss most when away is the scenery with boats everywhere. It's absolutely ALL kind of boats too as this picture shows with a viking ship, an old sailing ship, a steam ship and a modern ferry...Love it!
Favorite thing: And so, we say good-bye to Vaxholmen and head back towards Stockholm... On the way we enjoy the warmth of the sun, the fresh air and glistening water, the sights on the shore, and the feeling that a cherished memory is being born...
I love the way Stockholm is built on water. The boats criss crossing the harbour between the islands and heading off inland and out into the Archipelago really give Stockholm a special character.
You really have to do get on a boat or two (or five or six...) while you're in Stockholm, it really was a highlight of my trip.
It wasn't warm enough when I was there, but I can imagine people swimming in the clean water, a lovely thing to be able to do in a city.
It's a wonderful setting and a lovely city.
Fondest memory: Fondest memory would have to be the clear blue skies first thing in the morning and last thing at night and the lovely reflections on the waterways.
And the ferries heading off across the Baltic on a clear sunny summers evening with crowds of people on he back looking out on the city centre. It makes you reember that the water isn't just a historical thing giving the city it's former power, but a living breathing feature of the city that gives it life every day.
Favorite thing: This is one of my favourite pictures from the trip. The Gamla Stan is visible from a distance. Photo taken from my boat hostel by the bank at Sodermalm.
Hard to believe but still stockholm.. The city on sea can easily takes you away from the troubles of big cities..
Stockholm probably the only big city, sounds as a holiday town..
Favorite thing: On a Fine Day you go for a stroll down to the harbor, see the boats and from that point of wiew get a look of Stokholm from the sea-shore ! :-)
