Kvarnen is a very casual (as all bars on Södermalm are) bar/nightclub. Three bars, where the downstairs bar turns into a disco around 11pm. People are very friendly and it's easy to stike up a conversation with a stranger. Perfect for a night with your friends or for making new friends. Good beers and drinks. It's free of charge to enter.
Dress Code:
Very casual, don't wear a jacket.
Excellent traditional Swedish beer hall/restaurant on Södermalm. Very friendly, lively, and relaxed. We tend to come here to eat, though more people come just to drink and socialise.
Very good traditional Swedish food, including meatballs, and the truly wonderful starter "S.O.S" (pictured) - four types of pickled herring, Västerbotten cheese, warm boiled potatoes, and sour cream - best consumed with a glass of Swedish akvavit. Brilliant!
Highly recommended - we have been here more times than any other restaurant outside of London (8 times at the last count).
Dress Code:
No dress code, but there is a minimum age of 23. Children are welcome during the day.
Kvarnens restartang in Sodermalm.
This is a hang-out spot. You can get food or just hang out and drink. It gets crowded quickly, so get there early to get a seat. Some rock band members have been known to go here. Beer is expensive though, but it pretty much is the same everywhere in Stockholm. Expect to pay at least 40-45 kroner a glass. We went here our 2nd night & then again to meet the girl who designed my wedding dress & her boyfriend. We had much fun.
Dress Code:
Very casual. There's a club in the back called H2O that is more upscale & more expensive! So if you just want to relax & be casual, stay up front.
Go here, drink beer, meet the Bob's (swedish poet Bob Hansson and swedish band Bob Hund), don't wear black/yellow.
Dress Code:
You will be ok as long as you are wearing something.
