    Map of Stockholm

by HORSCHECK Updated Dec 7, 2013

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Miscellaneous: A free city map of Stockholm from one of the Tourist Information Offices is very useful for a stay in the Swedish capital. It includes city maps and an overview of the metro (T-bana), as well as some general information for tourists.

Stockholm's Tourist Information Centres can be found in the main hall of the Central Station, in the shopping centre Gallerian and in the old town at Västerlänggatan 52.

    Better not to wear high-heels!

    by sim1 Written Oct 24, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: I always forget myself, and each time I visit I regret it when I am wearing high heels.
Stockholm is beautiful and it is a great city to explore on foot. One of its charms are the old cobble-stoned streets. And that is where the problem lies when you walk around in high heels. Instead of enjoying your walk you will be tip-toeing all the time not to get stuck between the cobbled stones, which quite ruins the experience. So do not like me, be sensible and pack some shoes that are more practical!
Stockholm is fantastic to walk around in, and I always walk much and much more than expected. So be prepared and enjoy!

Pack only what you can carry

by celbee Written Dec 26, 2009

Luggage and bags: Porters are unheard of in Stockholm hotels so pack the lightest luggage possible.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Always expect cold weather so bring warm comfy jackets and learn to layer clothes.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring ALL your medicines because if you run out of these, you'll have to make an appointment to see a doctor and have another consultation and prescription. This will take WEEKS.

    VT BOXER SHORTS !

by DAO Updated Sep 5, 2009

    Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear:
If you come here to Party – be prepared. You need some VT underwear. Boxers are the preferred option. They are available to buy on link at the bottom of the page. They only ship in the USA, so you need to prepare early so you have them if you live outside of America. They are very comfortable, thanks for asking. Yes, that was in the middle of the street. Did I mention the beer is strong here?

    Bring with you fever/cold medicine

by jessiecakes Written Jan 18, 2007

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Take flu/fever medicine with you...I learned this the hard way! Even if you do find someplace that is open on a Saturday in July (Apoteket) it's hard to know which medicine you will need, and how much/when to take it, if you don't speak Swedish. Of course almost everyone in Stockholm speaks English, so that is quite helpful.

    Weekend in Stockholm

    by sue_stone Written Aug 30, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Don't pack too much...there is plenty of shopping to be done, so save some room in your suitcase for those new purchases! (and better pack your other half's credit card too!!)

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: When we were there in summer, it was sunny and warm - just needed a light jumper/jacket in the evening.

Winter is another story...it gets pretty cold, so pack accordingly and leave the strappy sandals at home!

If you plan on having a drink at the Icebar (see my Nightlife tip) you may want to wear covered shoes and something a little warm...although they do give you a big warm jacket & gloves to wear, it is still cold in there.

Photo Equipment: The usual requirements apply....carry plenty of film/CF cards etc and always spare batteries! There is nothing worse than having a full digital card or flat battery at the perfect photographic moment!!

I am so paranoid about battery problems that I always carry 2 spare sets...

Miscellaneous: * Sunglasses for those walks by the water

    * Guide books - we found an intriguing one called "A Hedonist's Guide to Stockholm" which has some funky places to visit, plus we had the Lonely Planet and an Everyman Guide

    * Your credit card - it is quite an expensive city to visit...

    3-pin plugs

by cucumbre Updated Nov 2, 2004

Miscellaneous: Get a converter for equipment using 3-pin plugs. It's different between S'pore and Europe. You may need to charge batteries for your mobile phone and camera. However, you do not need a converter for 2-pin plugs.

Luggage and bags: Good walking shoes that are also suitable on boats and grassy islands for your wonderful daytrips!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Warm clothes in winter (and for chilly evenings) of course. Shoes with good soles for slippery winter streets...

Miscellaneous: There's nothing that cannot be found here, although it might sometimes be cheaper to bring things from home.

    Take your research!

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Miscellaneous: One of the most important things to take with you is the research you have done on the place you are going to visit. Guidebooks are great and there are alot to choose from.

I found a website that is really great as well, and I would recommend checking it out before your visit to Stockholm and Sweden. The site is www.visitsweden.com

Photo Equipment: Make sure you take a lot of film for the many photos you will want to take. A zoom lens also comes in handy for getting to those 'hard to reach' places...
