    Expensive

Eating out is very expensive here!!!
I lived on philadelphia rolls(with crisps) bought from 7-11!
The Galway Irish pub does a nice plate of chips for about 25KR.

On my 2nd visit I went in TGI Fridays down by the fountain by the boat trips. a shared nachos and sandwiches and drinks(soft) cost about 380k(£30).

On my 3rd trip, i had dinner in Mest(see my nightlife section)-they do decent food. i had slamon skewers for 1300kr.very good.

On my 5th trip, had a nice hot chocolate in a cool cafe that did cakes and snacks called cafe Baresso. They have two of them in Stockholm.
We also had dinner is a great place called Cultur. It was a tapas restaurant with a cool bar attached. It had a nice ambience. Service was ok. Food was very good and for sweden worked out reasonable. While we weren't stuffed, for 55SEK we had a decent feed including a 600SEK ting glass of beer. It's in the old town.

    Veggie restaurants in Stockholm

by kanjon Updated Aug 27, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Veggie restaurants in Stockholm? There are quite a few, there´s a lot of vegans around Stockholm, I am proud to say.

So... Try Herman´s , restaurang och garden café with terrace. A classic. Cosy all year around. Walk Katarinavägen (walk on the left side with your back against Slussen) from Slussen and get a smashing view of Gamla Stan and Djurgården, surrounded by the water. Herman's has all kinds of veggie bufféts (and an outdoor barbecue in the summertime). Big but cosy place, lovely view, affordable. Fjällgatan 23B Stroll the neightbourhood, Fjällgatan is super picturesque, and yes, people do live in the small houses. Website (partly in english) with map http://www.hermans.gastrogate.com/5/restaurang_detail/part/8/id/2942.

The Hare Krishna restaurant Govindas is good, but not as nicely situated as Herman´s. But tasty food in big helpings with the nice athmosphere created by the staff. From Fridhemsplan you can take a walk down to the water and walk all the way to Stockholm centre, by the water. A popular route for many Stockholmers, joggers and dogs.
Opening hours Mon-Fri 11-19, Sat 12-19. Go to Fridhemsgatan 22, T-bana (metro): Fridhemsplan

Lao Wai is a vegetarian Chinese restaurant at Luntmakargatan 74. Open for lunch and later a la carte. The menu is primarily inspired by the genuine Sichuanese and Taiwanese kitchens. Homepage with á la carte menus in english:
    http://www.laowai.se/menu_en.html
This area has got many good asian restaurants and shops overall, if not Chinatown :-)

On the same street, Luntmakargatan 98, try restaurang Malaysia , homepage: http://www.restaurangmalaysia.se/
Malaysia is a popular place that has won awards for their food from places/magazines that usually know what they talk about. Malaysia serves nine vegetarian main courses (155 kr) and other food as well. Open for lunch and later for dinner.

Babajan http://www.babajan.com/, serves goooood ecological food inspired from all over the world. Located in a great (if you like special items, not the big brands) shopping area with smaller shops and cosy cafés. This area is popular to live in amongst people working with art, writing or media. Katarina Bangata 75.

Chutney, a good veggie and vegan ecological place. Katarina Bangata 19. http://chutney.se/var-mat/ In the same area (the same street) as Babajan (mentioned above), very good and in a relaxed crowd and milieu. Tofu burger, grilled Halloumi etc...

Legumés. A basic veggie place with a very afforable vegetarian buffé. http://www.vegetarisktmatcafelegumes.se/default.asp?pid=19 Located on Hornsgatan 80, a quick walk from Slussen takes you there in 15-20 min by foot. Take the right side of the street. Nice walk up Hornsgatspuckeln with small, personal shops, galleries and great Swedish handicraft (glass/cheramics) store Blår och Knåda. The food is ok, and cheap. Nice outdoor seating on a small square, close to a little shop with art materials and a good café. Lots of locals. Take the T-bana back from Mariatorget station.

May you all be happy with your veggies! Bon Appetit!

    Great lunches and snacks

by BlueLlama Updated Mar 25, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place serves drinks, snacks and light meals in an airy room decorated with black and white photos of old Hollywood stars. It was quite quiet on the day I visited. Odd as the food was great, the service friendly and several other cafes were packed out.

I had the laxpudding, a layered pie of salmon, egg and potato slices sitting in a soupy sauce. Very, very good, big portion. Salad came as a side. Lasagne, too, was tasty and filling. These more substantial lunch dishes cost SEK 85 each, which, considering how you could easily pay more for less impressive food in a pub in the UK, was a bit of a steal for such quality in Stockholm.

Definitely worth a visit if you want lunch in the Old Town. The atmosphere and pricing is smart cafe/diner, with the food unexpectedly superb.

    Gamla Stans Kebab

    by Gili_S Written Feb 17, 2008

I admit that in the Nordic countries I am not a fun of Kebab places as they are not as good as elsewhere. But this one here in the heart of the old city is a cool place to have ‘all right’ pizza & beer for less then 100 SEK.

  • Cheap and Tasty Pizza!

by ruoling Written Mar 10, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I can't really remember the name of the place. But it's just two streets down from the "Siam Thai Restaurant" in the direction of Gamla Stan station. I wish I could remember the exact address? I'm pretty sure it's along Stora Nygatan.

The place serves huge pizzas for only 55 SEK each! even better, it's 45 SEK if you order takeaway. It's perfect for hungry people!

Favorite Dish: The cheapest pizzas are already perfect. My personal favourite is the standard classic, Mushroom Ham! But the Banana-Curry with Ham is also a good try. The salads look absolutely mouth-watering but they are more expensive. :(

    various: Old Town cafes

by Sjalen Written Jul 24, 2006

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Old Town is full of cafes and a nice thing is to try the ones in Stortorget. In winter, it is the place to go for mulled wine or hot chocolate and in summer, you sit outside and watch people and look at the lovely houses around you. Don't miss a visit to the medieval cellar vaults that most of them will certainly have. All with their own story to tell. Some are a bit of a tourist trap but you're excused as it is such a nice setting.

Sushi, Thai, Chinese, etc...: Asian Heaven

    by Pieter11 Updated Feb 25, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Because Stockholm is a place where lots of Asians live and work, you also see a lot of Asian restaurants in the city. In the centre of Norrmalm you'll see them litterly in every street. There are all kinds of restaurants: Thai restaurants, Sushi bars, Chinese take-aways, Mongolian barbeque restaurants, and so on.

The food they serve is good, and is not expensive compared to the European cuisine in Stockholm. Never order only one dish, but take four or five for two persons, so you can take a bit of all, and have some variety.

Cheap Beer Place in Hooker Street: Cheap Beer

by polardabar Written Nov 22, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The first time I was in Stockholm Mark too me & a friend of mine around the city, so that after a while we were craving a chair, some beer & a tad of rest. We ended up sitting on a terrace of an average bar, although looking a bit like a mixture of a fine Italian restaurant & an Irish pub. We were just enjoying a warm August day sipping a couple of stor stark beers...

Anyway, this time I was determined to find the same place, since I was convinced it had the cheapest beer prices in Stockholm center. So I started walking around Norrmalm with no actual destination, but I had time, so I thought I'd run into it eventually. And I did. But it looked completely different - there was no terrace outside & I had no clue what the inside looked like. Luckily, I remembered the street names: it was the corner of Malmskillnadsgatan & Mäster Samuelsgatan, just a bit north-east of Sergels Torg.

I have no idea if it was luck, or a hunch or I recognized a waiter or something, but I just went inside & all of a sudden it felt so familiar. I ordered a big strong beer [for 29 SEK only!] & found a small table by the window. While sipping the beer I remembered how Mark told me it was the hooker street of Stockholm & I didn't even blink when I saw one passing.

Although it felt more like a restaurant & it was full of people munching on their specialties & they kept playing Mariah Carey's whole album over & over again, I went back there, every day. It felt a bit strange without Mark, but spending a cozy & warm evening there, sipping beer & thinking about life was just what I needed at that time... ;)

    Remember this number! ;)

A Mind is a terrible thing to waste...: Nice English Pub Atmosphere

    by NC_Ziggy Updated Feb 22, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sorry once again to leave you without a name for this restaurant, but I think I can get you close enough so that you can find it!

In Slussen, as you reach the "elevator" that takes you from street level and entrance to the Tube, take the elevator up and exit directly away from the water. Walk up this street and you will find this pub on your left.

Favorite Dish: There was a nice selection of menu items and all were well-prepared and tasty! Nice brew selection too! Reasonably priced and some locals which added a nice touch. Owned by a couple of English mates...

I wish I could remember... Duh!: Great Chinese Buffet in Gamla Stan

    by NC_Ziggy Updated Feb 22, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sorry that I cannot remember the name but it is in the heart of Gamla Stan... It has an outdoor seating area (as many establishments do in Gamla Stan) and also a spacious seating area inside. The choices on the buffet were varied and the food was quite good! At the end of our meal we were both given small Buddahs... ;-) One resides now in Moscow and the other in Hickory...

Eat and drink before a Djurgården-game

by Calcio Written Dec 15, 2004

I’ve actually been drinking a couple of beer at Djurgårdens supporter’s local pub, before a game, and I was scared to death that someone would understand that I was from Göteborg, and supported the away team. Probably because of that I can’t remember the pub’s name, or at which metro-station I went off… But there are some pubs close to the stadium that has been used by the supporters before the games, and when Djurgården 2005 is moving back to Stadion they will for sure be used again.
The Stockholm Stadion is in the central parts of the town, so you won’t have any problems to find a restaurant close by.

Favorite Dish: Well, the beer tasted good, even if I was scared to death... :)
