    Michelangelo: Expect a fat check

    by Paulinho551 Written May 29, 2009

Michelangelo is a fine place for dinning in Gamla Stam, the most touristic area in Stockholm. But prepare to receive a fat check. Me and my girlfriend went there in june '07 and ordered two entrees, desserts, coffee and a bottle of Sicilian wine. Good service by an Italian speaking waiter. The check was SEK 655 (about US 98.00)

(across the street from Rodolfino): Italian lunch deals

I have to say I haven't been to that many Italian restaurants in Stockholm as the best ones are found in Italy and I'm picky about that cuisine, but this belongs to the best ones I've been to and especially for the price you pay. The staff is Italian which sets the ambiance and also guarantees a certain authenticity - when we visited, several Italian families came for lunch which is telling...I haven't been in the evening which is more expensive, but their lunch deal, always including a pizza and a pasta dish, is great value for money. Apart from the main course, it includes side salad (yes, here they've strayed as that is the Swedish cabbage salad we think of as Italian but which isn't - still very nice though), mineral water/juice/pop and coffee for afters. A great deal if you are strolling the Old Town and want proper food for little money. The only thing is maybe that the interior is less romantic than you might want in an Italian.

The Rodolfino restaurant right across the street is yet another Italian - see the separate tip for it as it is another favourite! Both of these are better than the very touristy Michaelangelo in Västerlånggatan in that the latter is always crowded and service therefore not necessarily up to it but all of these are better than the awful Italian in Järntorget which should be avoided!!!

    Favorite Dish: Four cheese pizza.

Michaelangelo: Good atmosphere and professional staff

by gordonilla Written Sep 11, 2005

The atmosphere, service and food were all good - well worth going to see. There always appears to be an eclectic mix of customers and the staff deal with them wonderfully well.

Favorite Dish: a fillet steak and chips - wonderful does not describe it enough!

    Michaelangelo: Try their special!

Really cosy place! Traditional Italian setting, with an open kitchen allowing the aromas to spread through the restaurant.

They serve your typical Italian dishes from pastas and pizzas to a great cappucino.

The service is pretty good, the only thing that slightly bothered me was the fact that you had to pay 15 kroner to check your coat. Seems a bit of of touch in such a classy place.

Favorite Dish: Pasta Michelangelo was really good. If you like salmon and crab, you'll love this dish with penne!

Classic Italian restaurant in the heart of the old city.
Service was excellent and very friendly, they even try to entertain my kids, but was hard for them to find a common language with them :))

Favorite Dish: We try several different pastas, all were excellent

It seemed rather a touristy place at 7-8 p.m. on Friday, but it is very nice indeed. The service is quick, the staff is nice and smiling, very helpful, and the general atmosphere very cheerful. What may be really unique there is a wine cellar from the 17th century.

Favorite Dish: Pasta! their special dish is Pasta Michelangelo with salmon, and another great pasta is Spagetti Fruttmare. Nothing compares! The prices seemed to me more or less reasonable: Pasta Michelangelo was 110 SEK (about 11 USD).
