The entire area of Gamla Stan or the old town being very touristy, is impliedly full of gift shops for you to be able to carry home nice souvenirs. Like always I was more attracted to the dolls although one finds a variety of other souvenirs too. I got a timy one for my daughter. Some pictures of swedish dolls here.

There are lots of lovely shops in Gamla Stan - not only souvenir shops. I would love to have had more time to browse some of the boutiques and shoe shops, but I resisted and bought a 3 inch wooden Viking for the price of lunch instead :)) It wasn't for me, and its recipient was happy.

What to buy: I knew before I left for Sweden that I wanted some Dalahasten (little wooden painted horses - a typical souvenir) -They come in all colours and sizes, I bought red, green and blue (L,M,S). They are not cheap - although prices do vary depending on the quality.

Anyway, the photo is of a boutique that I didn't get to peruse. Maybe another time

What to pay: More than you think you should.

Gamla Stan (The Old Town): Gamla-Stan shops

What to buy: As well as in any European city - the tourist center - souvenirs are on sale practically everywhere. Walking on Gamla-Stan it is difficult to give up a pleasure to watch out colorful show-windows of numerous shops, to come into a small gift shop and to buy something for memory. We were involved with show-windows with figures of various trolls.

There are shops aplenty on the narrow streets of Gamla Stan. There seems to be quite a few art shops/galleries - these are not particularly cheap though. Otherwise, there are the usual souvenir shops for tourists.

Gamla Stan (The Old Town): Open Air Shopping Center

The old town is full of small boutiques, where you can do all kind of shopping. Only on Sunday morning it is completely quiet and looks to be from some other planet. On afternoon it begins to live, but still many shops are closed, like on Saturday evening, too.

What to buy: There are many antique shops. My favourite is the shop of old toys. The old dolls are so attractive and sensible.

Situated on Västerlånggatan 48, the main shoppingstreet in gamla stan, it should be easy to find.

    Opening hours:
    Monday-Friday 10-19
    Saturday 10-17
    Sunday 12-16

What to buy: This store has tons of SF and Fantasy. Books, comics, DVD:s and games IN ENGLISH.

What to pay: Since most of the stuff is imported, the price is slightly higher than original.

Gamla Stan (The Old Town): Fun shopping on the old town

I guarantee a fun time shopping in Gamla Stan. The shops sell things you need and things you don't need but which are great to look at. Here you will find the typical souvenirs - handpainted clogs, handknitted wool sweaters, all kinds of stuff with elks on them, arts and crafts, etc.
There are some excelleent restaurants as well and the narrow streets and colourful houses are alos worth a visit.

What to buy: Typical gifts are the wooden handpainted horses, the clogs and the knitted clothes.

What to pay: as much as you want

There are many shops to choose from. It is quite easy to walk throughout the alleyways of Gamla Stan and find something that will be to your liking.

What to buy: Handmade crafts of wood, glass, or leather were things that I saw the most of. At the Holiday season there are so many people out it is just fun to watch what they are getting. But the Dalarna horses are very traditional. You may even find some old Norse replica flasks or pipes.
