  • Gamla Stan...so much on one little island...

    by Jim70563 Written Jul 21, 2003

Gamla Stan is Stockholms old town. There are stores that cater to everyones tastes.

American in Sweden? Need a taste of Home? There is a great American Grocery store right at the north end of the main street in Gamla Stan. You cannot miss it.

Like Sci-Fi and Fantasy? There is one of the planets best Sci-Fi/Fantasy bookstores in Gamla Stan. Keep walking down the street (South) past the American store. It will be on your right hand side. "SF BOKHANDELN" with a nice dragon shaped sign over the entrance.

Call me wierd, but I actually make a trip into Stockholm every time I visit, just to shop at the bookstore. I am even on the mailing list....

What to buy: Food, books, tourists trinkets! Buy an orange Horse. My wife has these, I have no idea what they stand for, but by golly, they are SWEDISH. ;-)

stockman: do you have enough money II

    by Lucky79 Written Mar 10, 2003

During recent years there has been an explosive development in interest for home furnishings. We are investing more than ever in our homes, and for many people designed furniture is just as important as designed clothes. There are home furnishing stores all over Stockholm. On Söder you will find Clark's Case and Blås & Knåda, and on Östermalm you can find classic stores like Swedish Tin (Svenskt Tenn) and Carl Malmsten. On Norrmalm you can find Norrgavel and Bruka while on Kungsholmen you will find the popular Room.

It is no coincidence that The Folklore Symbol of Sweden is a Dalahäst (= Dala Horse) and it is produced in Nusnäs and only Nusnäs in Dalarna.
