Until recently, historic department store PUB was best known as the former workplace of Greta Garbo. A major revamp has since turned it into Stockholm’s hottest new fashion and lifestyle hub.
Bag yourself fresh Nordic labels like Stray Boys, House of Dagmar and Baum & Pferdgarten, refuel at the slinky cafe-bar or check out the edgy art space.
"PUB" on Drottninggatan is Stockholm’s oldest department stores with a history stretching back to 1882. There’s nothing 1882 about the store now though; it is thoroughly funky with a Swedish/Scandinavian design focus and totally Stockholm-style.
On the 2nd floor you’ll find Swedish fashion designers Carin Wester, Dagmar, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Hope, Minimarket and Whyred. Head for the 3rd floor to R.O.O.M, for cool furniture, interiors and household objects.
"Opening Hours" are, 10am-7pm Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm Sat, 11am-5pm Sun ...
What to buy: Massive and bustling, with an emphasis on traditional and conservative Swedish clothing, it offers just about anything you'd need to stock a Scandinavian home. There's also a restaurant.
I go to P.U.B when I want to treat myself or other people. This small lifestyle department store houses a fun selection of home furnishing, design, women's and men's clothes and cosmetics, on the trendy side. R.O.O.M., (big design store on the top floor) and Systrarna Voltaire (everything for the healthy and modern home cook) are great for gifts. Situated by the fun and colourful Hötorget. P.U.B. features Swedish brands such as Acne, Carin Wester, GANT, Tiger of Sweden, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Whyred, Dagmar, Acne, Rodebjer, Hope och Minimarket. What's not to like? Also the great restaurant Publik, with great lunches, espresso corner and champagne bar on the top floor.
What to buy: Systrarna Voltaire has got a lovely selection of tasty ecological raw food products and kitchen utilities. R.O.O.M. has great design, both contemporary items and more to the traditional side. APLACE has a great selection of Swedish clothes labels. Smiley Vintage makes fun remakes of vintage dresses. Champagne bar needs no comments. We know what that means to a day's shopping.
What to pay: At P.U.B, you can shop at the full price range. From modest to outrageous.
PUB is the short form of the store that Paul U Bergström founded in 1882. With six restaurants, an Internet cafe and a lot of shops you will find all you need at PUB.
My personal favourite is the media department with the best selection of DVD movies in Stockholm.
What to pay: Both sides of Drottninggatan, near Hötorget.
