    hockey!

by iaint Updated May 3, 2010 1337 reviews

Saw Djurgårdens play MODO in Oct 04, during NHL strike when most Swedish players came back home to play.

Impressive venue. 13k spectators on a Tuesday night!

Peter Forsberg was expected to play for MODO, but called off. Had to make do with Tommy Salo, Sedin twins etc!

Equipment: Book tickets in advance through internet suppliers, and collect on arrival.

    Globen Arena - Djurgarden

by redhotwax Written Mar 28, 2005 96 reviews
    Imposing Arena

When in Stockholm, check out Sweden's biggest sport: Icehockey! Djurgarden play in the Globen Arena, a 13.000 all seater Arena.

We had a great time there, drinking beers and have traditional Swedish hotdogs ;) Oh, and the game was pretty good too.

The atmosphere is really nice, with home and away supporters sitting in the same stands.

    Globen

    Globen

Globen is a major entertainment venue just outside the centre of Stockholm. The venue hosts music, sports, concerts, fairs and semenars

Equipment: Globen is fairly easy to get to as there is a metro stop (Globen) close by. Accomodation is next door in the Quality Hotel Globen and there are a number of bars and shops close by.

For up to date schedules, tickets etc, please check the website

    Hockey or horses?

The choice is yours, when you visit the Stockholm Globe Arena, better known as Globen (the Globe) to locals. In November, the biggest spheric building in Europe (seen from for instance Götgatan in the city centre if you want to get an impression of its size from the distance) hosts Stockholm International Horse Show with the world's top class riders in most disciplins, whilst all along winter, the Swedish hockey league battle it out here, with local Stockholm teams AIK and Djurgården being popular. There are also often World Cup or Championship hockey games as well as the odd huge rock concert.

    Ice Hockey matches

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you want to see an ice hockey match, you'll have to visit Stockholm between October and April. There are matches 2-3 times per week in what is called "Globen". Tickets run from 150 Swedish Krone and up. During summer, you may be lucky to find a hockey match, like in August 2004 there will be a match between Sweden and Finland--tickets costs 295 Swedish Krone!

For more information about tickets and matches, check the website www.globen.se.

They also have concerts here--in 2004 they'll have people like Phil Collins, Cher, Whitesnake, etc....

    Watching sports at Globen

by barcodex Updated May 13, 2003 401 reviews

Of course there are other places to watch sports in Stockholm, but in winter, and especially February, Globen becomes the main place to watch sports. Every early February Globen transforms itself into a big ice-hockey hall, which hosts Tre Kronor tournament, very prestigious competition where all the strongest ice-hockey teams take part in.
Also in February there is also an athletic competition taking place in Globen, which is normally used rather as a concert hall most of the year.

    Inside the Arena

by redhotwax Written Mar 30, 2005 96 reviews
    Inside the Globen!

If you think the Globen Arena looks impressive from outside, take a look at the inside, prior to face-off.

Equipment: Not really any equipment needed, just kroners to buy merchandise, beers and hotdogs! :)
