    Directions:
The Gustav Adolfs Torg is located at the southern end of Stockholm's Norrmalm district. It can be found in the vicinity of the park Kungsträdgarden and the Saint James's Church.

The square is home to the Royal Opera, the Swedish State Department, Arvfurstens palats (housing the Ministry for Foreign Affairs) and the Ministry of Defence. The statue of Gustav II Adolf in the middle of the square which was erected in 1796 by the french sculptor Pierre l'Archevêque. The square has its current name since 1805; previously they called this place Malmtorget or Norrmalmstorget due to the fact that it is situated it Norrmalm area of Stockholm.

The square is considered a point "zero" for distances in Sweden. From here you can count a distance between Stockholm and another place in Sweden or abroad.

Gustav Adolfs torg is the Gustav Adolf Square, a public square close to the Swedish Parliament. It is named after King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden and in the middle of this nice square, there is a statue of Gustav II Adolf which was erected in 1796. Encircling the square there are important buildings like the Royal Opera, the house of the Swedish State Department, house of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, house of the Swedish Ministry of Defence, the dance museum etc. apart from the Parliament which is quite close by and the Royal Palace. The square is a bit crowded. One thing that impressed me in the statue of king Gustav was the statue of the armour placed on the bottom of the pedestal. Look at the second picture.

On this place next to the Royal Opera House you will find a nice statue of King Gustav II Adolf. It is a good place to begin the walking tour trough Gamla Stan (Old Town).
