    View from Katarinahissen

... great views? Then Katarinahissen (The Katarina elevator) is something for you! Situated right outside Slussen subway station, very close to the Djurgards-ferry, you'll have a great view of Stockholm, mostly of Gamla Stan, when you're at the top of the elevator, and the bridge going out from it.

For more photos, see my travelogue.

It costs 10 kronor one way, and the elevator is open until 22.00 in the evening. I can recommened a trip there both during day and night! The view is really fantastic!

    Free with the Stockholm Card.

There is also the famous restaurant "Gondolen", from where you'll have an incredible view over the central parts of Stockholm. Unfortunately it seems like the prices are incredible too, so I prefered to just use the elevator, and get my dinner at another place.

This lift from 1935 takes you up 38m metres at the Northern shore of Södermalm. The top offers you great views towards the Old Town and the island of Djurgarden.
The lift is operated from 8am-10pm during the summer and from 10am to 6pm in winter. The single fare is 10 SEK.

From Katarinahissen near Slussen you will get a great view over Gamla Stan and the central of Stockholm.

The Katarinahissen lift, connecting Stadsgåden with Mosebacke, have been on this location since 1883, it was rebuilt in 1935.

This lift on the site of a lift in the 1800s takes you for only 10 kroner/£1 each way up to a walkway to the to top of a building that is linked with other buildings and also part of the cliff top.

This lift takes just a matter of a seconds to excellent views over the harbour and old town - and of course Slussen area just below.

At Slussen you will find the Katarina Lift which is a very special lift you can get up for a marvellous view of the city. There is also a restaurant up here - "Gondolen" - which is currently run by one of Sweden's top chefs and quite expensive but should be good.

You'll get a great view from the city from up here. If you enter from Södra teatern up the hill instead for from Slussen you don't need to pay and the view is even better from up here - I still can't stop envy those people having flats in this area with balconies with the spectacular view.

Originally built in 1883 and replaced in 1935, this public elevator connects Slussen below to Södermalm above. Take a ride to the top and take in the nice views of Gamla Stan and other parts of the city, and of course the water, for 10SEK each way. There is a man in the elevator that will take your money once on the way up, once on the way down. There’s a bit of a wait for the elevator to come. There is a nice restaurant at the top, but I did not visit it.

    Hours:

    mid-May - August 8am-10pm
    September - mid-May 10am-6pm

Unlike me, if you are a great fan of having top views of cities, you may consider going up the lift Katarina. It goes up 38 meters in seconds and the price you pay for this is just 10 Swedish kroners.

    Great Views

View from the top of the lift

Take the lift and get a great view over Slussen and Gamla Stan.

The lift itself has windows, but you probably won't get great pictures from them, for that you'll have to wait til you get to the walkway that goes from the lift to the road at the top of the cliffs - Gondolen is up here too if you want to sit down, have a drink and spend some money, if not, just linger after you get out of the lift - or for the real cheapskates without a Stockholm Card or the 5 SEK for the lift, just walk across the walkway and back without taking the lift. You'll have to walk up the hill though...

Vantage point, you have a nice view over Stockholm. Best dining views from a restaurant called Gondolen.
