The Royal Palace is situated on the highest point in Gamla Stan and was completed in 1754. Opening times vary depending on time of year but the palace is closed for three weeks in January.

The "kungliga slottet" (this sounds so funny!) is a truly monumental with a glorious interior ... at weekends, you can watch the spectacular changing of the guard in front of the Royal Palaces.

See the Royal Palace. This is one of the city's biggest attractions and is also the largest still lived-in royal castle in the world. Crowns, portraits, and other treasures are displayed inside.

View the Royal Palace from outside. I didn't go inside or do any of the tours but still found it worthwhile.

Changing Guard in front of the Royale Palace. It happens at noon. Even though the size of the ceremony is not that impressive, it is still nice to have a look at their uniforms and guards.

The courtyard of the Royal Palace at Gamla Stan. Nice gun and guard exhibition. :) The change of guard (a tipical touristy event) is held here.

    Guard near the Royal Palace

The Royal Palace was ready for occupation in 1754, and was partly built on the remains of the old castle Tre Kronor, which is now a museum.

Very touristy...but a "must see" just to say that you have seen it. There were a few beautiful pieces of royal jewels in the Treasury....but all in all...it was an "ok" experience...
