The touristy street of the Old Town. Crowdy and filled of tasteless shops selling junk and restaurants catering tourists only.
Unique Suggestions: The SF book shop in no 48 is the best of its kind in Sth.
Fun Alternatives: Oesterlaanggatan, the opposite mainstreet in the Old Town, is quite pleasent. Nice shops and a few good restaurants.

No real tourist traps ... but lots of expensive tourist shops in Gamla Stan and in the street from T-Centralen to Gamla Stan (Riksgatan) Don't spend to much time in each one, it's always the same thing and the same price !
Gamla Stan, it is the Old Town very nice to visit BUT most of the Restaurants and Shops are expensive because of all the tourists.
Unique Suggestions: Walk around and enjoy the scenery but rather shop at Hötorget there is alot of Restaurants and shops aswell that is less expensive.
Fun Alternatives: Visit the tourist places but try to shop where the locals shop.

You will not find lots of tourists even in high season, so you will be able to experience the real life of Stockholmans without too much interference from visitors. This is a view of Stortorget, the main square in Gamla Stan, and its colored fasades.
Gamla Stan, the old town, is...
Gamla Stan, the old town, is definitely a must-see thing in Stockholm. At the same time, it is also a tourist trap. Why?
Mainly because of all the commerce here. All the shops that sell crap, frankly, overprized and in most cases made in another country although claiming to be swedish souvenirs. Like so many other special places where tourists flock, this commerce is a disturbing part of Gamla Stan. Also, in the summer be prepared for a crowd, because here are many people! If you dare to get off the street called "?sterl?nggatan" and wander around the island on smaller roads, you will avoid the worst mobs. Good luck!
Fun Alternatives: Apart from the main tourist street, take the smaller streets that cross the island upon which Gamla Stan is situated. There are coffee shops, antiques stores and nice buildings to see everywhere on the little island.
Västerlangatan in Gamla Stan,...
Västerlangatan in Gamla Stan, the oldest part of Stockholm. It is the main street of this small area, and usually crowded with tourist.
Unique Suggestions: Take the first alley left or right to get away from the crowds and enjoy Gamla Stan in peace.
