    Stockholm card or SL card?

There are two cards in Stockholm. One is the Stockholm card, managed by the Stockholm Visitors Board and the other is the SL travel card. Both are available for shorter time as well.

The SL card is only a public transportation card, while the Stockholm Card also allows free entrance to 80 museums and other venues. The entrance to Skansen and Vasa museum is for example free with the Stockholm card and many other museums and attractions are included as well. Price for a three day adult card is 825 kr. Check out on:
    http://www.visitstockholm.com/en/Stockholmcard/

The plain 72 hour SL travelling card costs 230 kr and includes all metro, bus and tramfares including the ferry over to Djurgården from Slussen and the tram to Djurgården from Norrmalmstorg. You can travel as much as you like, regardless of zone boundaries, but this card has no free entrances to museums and such. Check out on:
    http://sl.se/en/fares--tickets/

The Stockholm card gives you free fares on metro and buses and free fares with the ferry to Djurgården from Nybroplan. The other ferry to Djurgården, from Slussen, is not included in this card, but in the SL card, something that from time to time causes a bit of discussion. The ferry from Slussen is free only with the SL travel card described below.

    Happy travelling!

Stockholm Card includes free public transport by Stockholm Transport (SL). Subway, buses, commuter train or tram all over Stockholm county and free access almost every places in Stockholm city.

For traffic information, you can call to +46 8 600 10 00 or visit sl.se (and up on that page you see "other languages"), there you can find all you need. :)

Trains, Buses, and Subways- Oh My!

If you are going to be in Stockholm for more than a couple of days, I would highly recommend the purchase of a Stockholm card! It can be used for travel on the subway, bus, or local train system and is good for 30 days unlimited! The cost in 2001 was about US $45 and I'm sure that we saved money using it for only 12 days.

It can be purchased in the Central Station and makes your travel much more convenient... I highly recommend it!

Public transport in Stockholm is very expensive. The most convenient way for us was the underground. If you travel within one zone the fare is about 20 SEK. Crossing the zone doubles the price. So it pays to buy multi-journey tickets. But the best idea is to buy Stockholm card. You can then use all means of transport, including some sightseeing tours by boat at certain hours. Besides it gives you free (or reduced)admission to most Stockholm museums.
