Rindö is a 5 kilometre island visible from Vaxholm and where the yellow road ferries shuttle to all day long so you can even get here by bus from Vaxholm. That is unless you approach it from Värmdö east of Stockholm with its main road. On Rindö you find Oskar-Fredriksborg which I mentioned in my tip about the fortress, but also Rindö redutt which is yet another fortress from 1858-63. Since 2005 the navy is no longer on any of the Rindö fortresses but you still cannot visit the interior, just stroll around outside. The buildings are meant to be changed in one way or other soon although the redutt is a listed building since 1935. Vaxholm Council has grand plans to turn Rindö into some sort of Archipelago Town so keep your eyes open if you're looking to invest in expensive property in future...
