    Department buildning in Uppsala

If you're interested in old buildings and architecture Uppsala is a nice city to experience many forms and styles. Many old houses used to be a part of the University with buildings and departments all over the city. Nowadays many of these buildings has been sold out and are now occupied by different companies. They are still cared for because of their cultural status.

Th Golden Gate Bridge of Uppsala

Unless you’re easily impressed you’re likely to find the iron bridge of Uppsala a little underwhelming. Its predecessor was however the first suspension bridge in Sweden and its construction undertaken as a job creation scheme following a catastrophic crop failure in 1845. Parts of the original bridge have been incorporated into the current structure. Hopefully not the bolts that hold it together!

    Flustret

The house standing here now is a copy of the old Flustret which burned down in 1984. Flustret was for decades a popular restaurant and a place for dance.
In Swedish "Flustret" means the beehive entance. The restaurant got this name because on sunny and warm summerdays it was crowded on the veranda, like it is crowded with bees by the beehive.

The house with the vault is called Skytteanum after the first university chancellor who lived here. In 1626 he gave the house to the University.
