When Norway broke away from the union with Sweden in 1905, a century of peace was under threat. The conflict was solved during negotiations held in Karlstad. In September 1905 both parties agreed to go to their separate ways peacefully. In the centre of the city you also can visit the Cathedral or The Town square and The Peace Monument.

Again I point out to the surroundings of towns: the nature. In sweden it is free to put your tent anywhere you like. Again with the kind request to leave the place as you found it. If the ground belongs to someone it is - of course - prohibited to stay, unless you ask what are the possibilities (and you will be surprised how many there are). Camping in the wild, along the shores of one of the thousand lakes the country has, is a joy that you will not easily forget. Most lakes also offer an enormous amount of wateractivities, like boating, swimming, fishing.

If you like history and if you´d like to see how schools looked like, perhaps sit at a desk or see what they used to punish the students with in the 18-19th century. A visit to the small museum in the middle of karlstad is well worth a visit

Karlstad, like other swedish city has a lot of sculptures in the streets. This is a very funny one near the City Hall.

The river Klaralven flows through the centre of Karlstad. It rises high in the Norwegian hills and forms a beautiful delta as in empties into Lake Vanern. Now there are a very nice park near it.

Make it out to Lake Vanern if you can. It is really beautiful! The lake is HUGE and looked like part of the ocean. We went fishing there and caught a 300 gram Abborre (Perch) which was fun.
